non-contact temperature measuring device.
Generally used to measure objects at high temperature.

Pyrometer does not necessarily imply 'non-contact'

There are plenty of 'contact pyrometers' like what the tire techs use to measure temps across tires in F1 etc.

IR ones are the hot lick though

well pyro means fire dont it?

i wonderd this after seeing the auto meter site!.... i thought pyrometer would monitor fires in the engine bay giving you good chance to get the fook outta ya car when it starts moving!...lol....
