Default Help, Police Vans/Camera's

Saw a Police van parked up on the side of a dual carrigway on the way to work this morning, but there was no camera with it?

It was one of those Peugeot Partner size vans but had a hatch in the top of the right hand rear door, what was this for?

Is this yet another way they have of catching people speeding, or is it one of the ones they use for checking people's tax and things?

Ive been past them before slightly over the speed limit and never had anything but admitedly (sp) they were big Transit size vans in 30 zones etc, not on dual carrigway's...

Think ive been done TBH, but just wondered! I would have had a clean license in March aswell!

these are still camera partnership vans , you get DVLA ones too for the tax , but it does say DVLA on the side. sometimes they will put a temporary roadsign out to let you know

Youre fooked mate! - The hatch is where they sit and point the device at your car.

Hope you get away with it!

I thought by law the police camera vans had to be "visable" or atleast marked with police on them.

Sounds like its a speeding van....

All the tax ones ive seen have been plain white.

There should have been a sign errected to make road users aware of the camera, they have a new one around here which is a tripod about 3ft high that is very hard to see, they can park the van out of the way which makes it even harder to see it coming.

All the best mate hope they dont get ya

Beach Definately no sign fella, I would have slowed down earlier!

Mr.Manchester IIRC Andy, this one just had the orange and yellow stripes up the sid of it, definately didn't say 'Police', thats why I asked if it might have been a 'tax' van

adamS2RST I think I am mate , sorry couldnt talk last night, catch up with you soon!

If there is no speed camera signs they can't legally do it mate, thats why with the small tri pod type we have here they have to put a sign up within a certain distance of the camera, thats why all the roads with them on have signs.

Best of luck pal, sounds like it was a tax van TBH

Sounds good then mate, funnily enough my Dad rung me at work for something today so I asked him about it and he reckons that he went through it about 100mph about 12 months ago and never heard a thing!

He seems to think the back of it is the tax, and in the front is the camera, which IIRC ive seen this set-up before...

If thats right I was doing about 60mph by the time I reached the front of the van so might be alright!
