Default bike carbs on zetec

may be purchasing a RS1800 fiesta this week with a 2ltr zetec fitted. i thought about turboing it but like the idea of the bike carbs which seems to be getting popular now.
all fabrication work will be done locally.
what happens to the existing ecu etc?
is it still needed for spark etc?
i aint got a clue with this kinda thing!
where is best bit to get bike carb? roughly how much? what kind etc?

Are you sure you mean Carbs and not just the throttle bodies from a Bike?

yes he did.. or get on to turbosport.co.uk - there's a whole section on zetecs including a guy called RChambers who did exactly what you're thinking of in his mk2 escort.

Bogg Bros did the one in the picture. Its an RS1600i so the ecu and coils were retained for ignition. Fueling isnt done through ECU anyway on a 16i. They are carbs too not TB's Didnt Fudgeass use TB's, these are a different kettle of fish and much more complicated as they require management that can run from a TPS

Bike carbs and bike throttle bodies are two different things.

If you check out this months Fast Ford there is a 3dr with a 2.1 pinto running 38mm gsxr carbs. The manifold is home made and the carbs are spaced to suit.

You must bear in mind that these carbs are CV and therefore the bore is straight through. A 45 side draught will in fact run a 34 or 36mm choke.

I had helped setup the 3dr and have to say that the bike carbs are very easy to tune compaired to 45s. More like hi tech SUs.

I used a seperate dizzyless, coilpack mappable ignition on the 3dr.

i like lots! bit more money involved in the conversion than i thought. doesnt look like she's gonna let me buy the car anyway as she wants the drive paved and a car would just be a waste of money. she must b sick of getting her feet dirty when she gets of her broomstick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just sold my mk2 fiesta in which i done an r6 bike carb convertion.

I will soon be able to supply a zetec inlet manifold to accomadate carbs...

A set of re jetted ( not drilled ) carbs with internal work as mine did by Jekyl and Hyde

And if needed megajolt management running load for map.

Fitting will be avaliable.

Live maps also avaliable through Jekyl and Hyde.

May possibly do manifolds for cvh if there is enough interest.

But i will be able to supply and fit all the above cheaper than bogg brothers INCLUDING management.

Email bikebodies@hotmail.com for info.

Beg to differ when they charge Ł80 just to drill jets out on bike carbs and say thats good enough to run on a car.

My carbs had a hell of alot more done to them and the difference was fooking untrue.

Do like their manifolds though although the angle of the zetec manifold they do is too flat imo and mega expensive to usual people at Ł200.

The manifold above is for throttles bodies. It doesn't matter hat angle they are at.

Most people make the manifolds too flat. Modern bike carbs are usually designed to run at 45 deg or more.

so what will work better? for throttle bodies.

1. manifold as above, injectors pointing at the opposite side of the manifold and at 90 deg to the head,so the air has to flow around that 90 deg
or
2, standard st170 injector manifold, with the injector pointing at the back of the valves, inlet manifold at 45deg to the head, air flow pointing at the back of the valves.
????????????

Either will work mate.... but ford didn't spend millions designing that manifold for nothing.

There are alot of different ways people use throttle bodies mate and i would not like to say which was best.
