Cossie help. Missfire/spark/running problem FAO Stu ;)
firstly why isnt stu at work so i can pick his brain
ive had an ongoing missfire problem. To cut a long story short the car now has new gpA coil, leads, plugs, rotor arm and 3 dizzy cap's! 1st dizzy cap seemed fucked when taken off because the wee contact that sits on the rotor arm fell out. got another cap and the flippin wee bit got stuck inside the cap :s yesterday i went to my mates for him to put on cap number 3 and gap and refit new plugs. fitted plugs first and car was running fine. but there was a missing problem and car almsot felt at time like it had lost all power and you had to back off throttle and edge on slowly. Anyway we thought we'd replace the cap so we did. Now the fuckin car wont start or run! its only running on cylinders 1 and 4! we checked the spark and cylinders 1 and 4 spark perfectly. 2 and 3 are v poor in comparison!
we thought we put leads on the cap in order they came off. 2 confuse things further the guy who did it for me has a 3 door cossie so we put the leads on like his car is setup. then we looked at his neighbours 4x4 saff and its same order but different cap position
now as im typing this ive just spoken to jamo on msn and his 2wd saff is different yet again!!!
see if i can explain how they are setup...
looking into the car from front with leads coming into back of cap:
3 door cossie order is 1 on bottom n/s 3 top n/s 4 top o/s and 2 bottom o/s
4x4 saff cossie is 1 on top o/s 3 bottom o/s 4 bottom n/s 2 top n/s
now jamos saff 2wd is not clockwise 1 3 4 2 it is 1 2 3 4:
1 bottom o/s 2 bottom n/s 3 top n/s 4 top o/s
hope that makes sense.
can anyone confirm that mine should be 1 2 3 4 like jamo's? and would the car only run on cylinders 1 and 4 because of this?
Also...should the rotor arm turn freely when the dizzy cap is off? mine seems to be rather loose. should it be more fixed?
chop

ALL non cat cossies are:
(from front of engine bay looking down onto the cap in its fitted position)
21 (2 on bottom row)

Anything else is wrong, end of discussion.
Rotor arms from Ford are garbage, get an aftermarket one. Should be nice and tight.
