hi all i know its a ford forum but i am buyin a 318 e46 touring for the maud,the question is are they chain or belt on the cam?

all bmws are,..... well bar a few very very early engines in the 80s

94-e36-318 - same belt


unlikly

95-e36-320 - m42 chain

e46 are ALL chains for def


the early stuff is not my stong point as I dont work on them

Autodata lists it as chain for the 1.9 (6.75 hrs to replace it), 2.0 says chain but no other details
