Default Shot peened conrods?

Who does them and roughly how much? When are they actually necessary - obviously I know the benefits, but would you whack 'em in while your at it, or are standard ones more than capable of the job unless you want you want to run silly bhp?

torque doesnt really effect conrods, they almost always fail purely because revs.

so it depends on how you make your bhp in the first place.

DETAILED info about your engine please?

Its only stage one 4x4 ATM (standard i/c, injectors, map sensor AFAIK in fact how can you tell by looking if still standard MAP? But pretty sure it is) but going to have top end rebuild over the winter. If the bottom end looks to be fine, then irrelevant as wont be touched - then got to thinking maybe whack a set of forged pistons in whilst at it (possibly lower compression) which got me to thinking wether its worth bothering with conrods etc etc, so just a generalised question really, as don't know if really want to go down that route

Standard cossie as in ones from cosworth or standard cossie as in mahle ones used in a standard YB?

I beleive the mahle ones are "squeeze cast" aka "pressure cast" and NOT forged.

Im sure Stu or someone can confirm though?

For what you are doing you will NOT need to shotpeen your rods, as you wont be revving high enough to warrant it.

its needed past about 8krpm or so, you wont even be going over 7!

Dunno if any point having 'forged' pistons if decide to change them anyway, but get them cheap so why not!

There are benefits and drawbacks.

On a stage 3 cossie the benefits are outweighed IMHO, mainly due to the piston to bore clearance needed to be increased, which creates long term reliability issues on high milage use road cars.
