What makes you say that Jano?

From what I can see, internally the gearbox is identical to the other MTX's I have had apart, except the diff obviously!

As I understand it, there has never been a transfer box failure from too much power, rather lack of maintenance, and incorrect oil levels.

standard cossy gear can't be that good either tho... coz otherwise people wouldn't be putting jag rear running gear on their cossies...

One of the prototype 4x4 BC mk4 escort transfer systems and rear beams were for sale in Finland for over a year for very little money, like around ~1000e with all needed parts. Nobody wanted it though as it's virtually impossible to get such a conversion registered over here. I have no idea who eventually bought it as it hasn't been for sale for a while.

Ian over on RS2000-16v.com is building a supercharged 2.3 RS2000 4x4 using an Evo gearbox, he has had the belhousing modified to fit the Ford bolt pattern and a one off flywheel made to suit.
Pic of both transfer boxes (Evo on the right)

Wow What a cool, original project

Is it just me, or does everyone else think the Evo box looks a lot more high tech than uncle henrys effort

So what power does the Mondeo/ RS2k drive train take then?

The transfer box is the weak link, not the box. As you say the box is almost the same as the MTX75 i use

Wicked mod done to the above box in the pic

there used to be a place years ago called 'midland motorsport'
they were always advertising in the motoring news.
I went there a few times looking for cossie parts
they had all sorts of RS bits there including some strange rear axles that i could not place-
when i made enquiries it turned out that it was 4wd running gear for escorts-
the guy pointed to the gear boxes to match
I never thought much of it at the time but thought it would be pretty cool to have a 4wd rst
(this would have been about 14-15 years ago)

i remember reading about a 4 door Mk1 Escort Mexico Ford produced. it was tawny bronze (shit brown) and was featured in Classic Ford magazine a few years back.

i also remember my dad having a british rallying video when i was a nipper. it featured a season (think it was 1989 -1990 but may have been later) that had Ford using a Escort Cosworth. it was a prototype at the time and not homologated so ran with number 0 on the door. it pissed on the Legacy's that were winning everything at the time. it was white with blue tiger stripes. anyone remember this? the tape got chewed up unfortunately.

There's an Imperial Blue RWD Escort Cosworth minus the whaletail with a full cream leather interior and a Granada 2.9 V6 24v Cosworth engine that Ford built, on the go.
Apparantly Ford were toying with the idea of making a more GT/luxury type car.
Had pictures somewhere, i'll see if I can dig them out.

my brother worked for turbosystems in london a few years ago,and someone was offered a 4x4 kit for his s1(i own the car now) it was coming from germany, and as far as i can remember it was supposed to have been scrapped,he turned it down,as he had already spent a small fortune on his s1.so i think they existed, but never seen one.

I remember reading somewhere that ford used to take the white turbo E386 YVX down to car clubs, maybe RSOC, whilst out test driving.

They never popped the bonnet though
