Default Esc Cos water pump ... are there different variations?

I think i need to beef up my waterpump. Idle temps rise quite quickly, but on acceleration, drop nicely.. its only on slow driving that they rise in to the mid 90's rapidly. The fans do nothing to reduce this either.. despite BOTH being on

i think i need to step up the waterflow.. is there any upgrade available? or am i stuck with the std pump?

cheers

Dave

Would it be viable to add an additional electric pump somewhere in the system - you may even be able to get rid of the standard pump.

Just a thought!!!

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with that and is completely NORMAL. It is only because you have an accuarte gauge that you can see the temps fluctuation up and down when stationary and as the fans come in and go out. If you look at your OE Ford gauge, you will find that it never strays outside of "norm" when this is happening .

You're wasting your time and money trying to cure a problem that isn't there . IF the temps were not held down by the fans coming in THEN worry .

ok.. would an inline electric pump help the flow then tony? im assuming slow water flow is the reason for the heat building up quickly.

or possibly the thermostat prob as stu says?

either way, SECS monitor shows 96/7 deg in slow traffic / idling quite quickly

but if i spank it on a clear stretch.. the temp drops nicely to 80

Dave,
Have you changed the twin stage fans over to single stage yet? .

The STANDARD Escort's second stage fans are not set to come in until 100°C, so this shows that even Ford think what you are seeing is totally acceptable - WRY YOU NO WRISSON ?

**stu posting**
I diasagree to a degree. (no pun intended)

Ford find 95 ok when dealing with the cylinder head temps of a standard car and also run such high coolant temperatures as it helps with fuel economy due somewhat to thermal effieciency, but i personally prefer a water jacket somewhat cooler after a high temperature run to help combat some of the heat generated and maintain gasket integrity by keeping the pressures down a little . Somewhere in the mid to high 80s is my preference at slow speeds and low 80s at high speed.

Mikes point about the fans is very valid though, the 2 stage ones are garbage. As well as this, you will often find that a standard sensor in an alloy rad means the fans will kick in and almost never go off... more mods.

Stu,
He ONLY sees these temps when stationary or slow moving, it does go down to the temps you want to see as soon as the car is moving. This is the norm (in my experience) with an RS500 intercooler equipped Escort .

so do i stu.. and at 30 - 40, i still see higher temps than mid 80's...

but, if i get a clear stretch and plant it.. temps drop instantly to low 80's very late 70's sometimes

so im assuming the problem is speed of water flow around the system?

judging by the pump impellor being relative to engine speed

Dave,
NO NO NO NO . It is an AIR FLOW problem, your pump runs at 1.3 times engine speed so is PERFECT. At 30mph mid 90s is NOTHING to worry about with an RS500 intercooler sitting in front of your radiator. If you're that worried about it, go back to a standard Escort Cosworth one , as that is the ONLY way you will cure it .

You still haven't confirmed if you have got rid of the two stage fan set up? .

FFS, THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM . The fans are SUPPOSED to be on when the airflow is insufficient you mongaloid . If you had your fans on single stage, they would keep temps held at no more than a MAX of 93°C and would actually BRING the temps down and just keep cycling on and off. The first stage of the two stage set up is not man enough to do this and the second stage doesn't come in until 100°C . With both fans enabled, problem GONE .

Can I just say - you're a TWAT .

Dave,
Are you REALLY that stupid ? Let me clarify as you obviously do not understand. On the Escort Cosworth it has two fans, only ONE comes in on the first stage THIS IS NOT MAN ENOUGH TO KEEP TEMPS DOWN . THE SECOND STAGE DOESN'T COME IN UNTIL 100°C - are you with me?

If you fit the Sapphire fan switch BOTH FANS COME IN TOGETHER - WHICH IS MAN ENOUGH TO BRING TEMPS DOWN.

Please tell me you have now grasped this?

YOU REALLY ARE A MONGALOID TWAT .
