Honda Civic Type R opinions
recently had desires for a civic type R after noticing a few about just lately , never really thought about owning one before , but i think they look very nice motors and dont seem that badly priced .
Not had a real good look at one before so what are they like inside and performance wise
anyone off here got one ? Had any trouble with it ? would you have another?
cheers

Honda Civic Type R
One of my mates owns one. It's a really nice car to drive, need to get the revs up to get the v-tech to cut in though.
Only trouble he has had has been with the paint work. His is Cosmic Grey and the passenger door is a slightly different shade of grey to the rest of the car ! In fact this is the second one he has had in this colour as Honda changed the first one for exactly the same problem !!
Cheers.
Dave.

We've bought and sold shit loads of civics and quite a few type-r's and they're brilliant
honda reliability is always a bonus The interiors are pretty nice for Honda as they're normally dull but they seem to have put half a bit of effort in on these . The gear knob looks weird sticking out the dash if you're not used to civics but it actually feels REALLY nice to drive with, plus it's easier to get the nosh off your passenger
V-tecs are awesome, not ONE of the millions sold has ever been returned to the factory no other manufacturer can boast that
Sure, you gotta get them running off the cam and keep them above 4.5- 5k rpm if you're hooning it, but means you can drive economically if you want as well
Buy one they seem to be holding their value alot better than any other car in that price bracket as well at the moment

They're still losing money mate, all cars will
But look at the price of a new Golf Gti and how much one is a year old and do the equvalent with a Civic Type R comparatively type r's depreciate less
An example as I've got my glasses guide in front of me:
VW Golf Gti 1.8T 02 plate, price new at the time £16245, retail value now £8950 that's lost 45% of its new price in 3 years
Honda civic type R 02 plate, price new at time 15815, retail value now £10275 only lost 35%
only who'd buy a new car I ask thee

Not a bad car have driven loads 197 bhp 145lb of torque.
I think thats right ?
I would go 4 the anniversary model cos it has recaros momo s/wheel,tinted side and rear windows
Or try to import a jap spec one which has above plus lsd, more power, hid lights and comes in a creamy white
NOT a cossie but fun anyway!!!!
Shame they stoppped building it .(NO MORE FUN AT WORK)

It started with a "story" that not-one V-Tec system in any Honda car had ever failed, and has snowballed wildly into this crazy myth due to Hondas superb reliability.

It's not a myth, not one has been returned to the factory
See what I did, I'm a wizard with words, I use that one on customers all the time especially when the old mans looking cos it winds him up to fuck
Had a go in one of the new CDTi accords the other day and was fookin impressed just to show hondas aren't infallible, the diesels had a recall apparently to turn the boost down

I have one, had it about 18 months now, a 02 plate in Black. Its well nippy, reliable, and they love to rev! I recently put an inductuction kit on mine and that makes a huge difference Mongoose sounds nice too.
I would defo recommend one
Heres a few pics when I first got it........

Mate from uni bought a black one in the final year. Took me for a spin in it before I got the cossie. Seem to go very well. Not a fan of the gearstick on the dash look but performance wise they are good.
He paid 14K from a Honda dealer in Bournemouth which seemed high to me for an 02 but he wouldnt listen to me telling him to put it towards a house deposit!
Still has it and was talking of supercharging it but hasnt as yet.

My missus is after one in the next few months! I had one of the newer shape Integra Type R DC5's and loved it.
As for the reliability apparantly there were a batch of them (not sure what year but one of the earlier produced new shape Civic Type R's where a fair few went back with rods hanging out the side of the blocks!!!!!

I nearly went for the type-r myself. But bought a pug as it was cheaper and not much diffrence in performance. the civic is Nice car but a bit buzzy on the motorways always in the high revs even at 70mph. But i suppose its built for that. Can't fault the honda engine
Just make sure you get used to the gear changes before you boot it coz the reason the rods kept popping out from the block is people change from 5th into 2nd happened to a few members on civic type-r.com
Id go for it mate some good examples out there now for good money
Id deffinatly recomend popping over to www.civictype-r.co.uk and checking out there forum lots of good info!
