Default Help needed! Clutch release bearing

Right basically i'd like to know if my release bearing is shagged. Was driving along, went for 3rd and the shift felt strange, but went into gear. Pulled over and tried to select gears but i couldn't and the clutch felt weird - the pedal wasn't springing back to where it should have when released. Manged to nurse the car home, but when i push the clutch pedal in there is a grinding from the box. Every gear is fine and i can change fine without using the clutch by revving the car up in neutral and applying pressure to the gearstick.

I'm hoping its just a case of a new clutch needing fitted.

Im sure if it was the release bearing the noise goes away when the pedal's pressed.

The noise is only there when the clucth pedal is pressed and the car is fine driving wise - if i boot it the clutch doesn't slip or anything. I take it whatever the problem is it will be clutch related so a new clutch kit will sort it. Funny thing is i said i thought the clutch could do with being changed about an hour before this happened!
