Default Towing

Someone at work told me it's now illegal to tow your mate's broken down car with a towrope. He says it's got to be one of these rigid towing poles that you use?

Does anyone know if this is correct?

yes its now illegal to tow with a rope it has to be a fixed bar. although its funny cos you go into halfords and they sell 1 towing bar but about 7 different kinds of tow rope ranging from your basic types to your delux velvet lined efforts

I do loads of towing, seen loads of police and never been stopped why bother to make a law if no-one is told about it?? Perfectly safe towing with a rope if you have half a brain anyway

isn't it just illegal to tow with a rope if you're travelling more than a few miles?
