Azrael Sep 29, 2005 05:01 PM

Is the rattling sound B&M short shifter or is the Escort falling apart? ;-)

I like the part "I was fully in control!" ;-)

9:30 is pretty fast for such leisurely driving!!!

cossymad Sep 29, 2005 05:02 PM

Hope this is worth the dload ;)

Speedy G. Sep 29, 2005 06:51 PM

Downloaded it in 5min 2sec.
Went pretty well.
Now, let's see that vid in a few minutes.

cossymad Sep 29, 2005 07:22 PM

I did take the racing line through 'Brunnchen'
I took the quickest
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...astford001.jpg
I didn't want to slide too much, as the car was understeering like a front wheel drive, cause it was quite slippery out there.
The worst moment was at the first hard left after the bridge....I had completely locked up.....thank god for ABS
The rattling is the B&M, 'cause I left a washer out when fitting it.
I like to go out with 4 people in the car, all the time as the car seems alot happier with extra 'ballast' in the back!
I have only clocked up around 35 driving laps so far there, the main reason for the speed I can carry is the brakes and the 'no-lag' from the small turbo.
Shift light is set at 5600rpm....a little low for my driving style!
It is a testiment to the car really the abuse the thing gets, and almost 100% reliability.
See you in Easter.

digita1dragon Sep 29, 2005 07:54 PM

awesome!

MARCOSWORTH Sep 29, 2005 08:14 PM

Cause you drive it like FWD ;-) Need to do some rallystyle stuff ;-) Althought The Ring doesn not seam like the best place to do it ;)

I driven car with it recently and was worried about gearbox at first. But I didn't really like the shifting, standard item works better for me.

It's a matter of setup you know ;_)

You seam to know your way at some places.

I have a road car that is used for shopping and the school run. I don't think my missus would appreciate me doing a gravel stage in it. :blabla:

I never said anything about gravel. I was talking about driving technique. And rallying is not only gravel! E.g. here there are almost no gravel rallies.

Anyway I was talking about preventing it from understeering by some tricks ;-) Mine understeers only into very tight corners when driven properly (although I don't know how it's going to be with new suspention - fitting right now).

Azrael Sep 30, 2005 08:10 AM

By the way - it's beautifull car :-D

cossymad Sep 30, 2005 08:22 AM

I'll have to get some driving tips from you!!!
Remember that was the first time I had driven in 10 months, and before that, I was exactly Mr.Perfect. I just try to remember the whole track, or section by secton, and string each bit together. I guess with a full load, I will get more understeer as the car wants to go straight at the bends, especially in the damp track.
With no passengers the car gets a little twitchy on long bends and tail happy on the tight stuff, which I am not used to. It drifts fairly well on certain bends which is quite good for powering out of the majority of bends at Nurburg.
Make sure you go in Easter, or whenever we are going next, and you'll see it is more about knowledge than speed or handling ;)
(Disregard that last sentance...I'm starting to sound like Dr. Rainbird CAmP)

Yeah I realized sometime yestrday you lost your licence sometime ago so you don't get much practise :-(

It's funny - in normal situations the car will understeer more, but with rapid changes of direction it make it much more unstable. I once spun at high speed with just cameraman in the back which was pretty scary. I was just going throught pretty tight (low 3rd or high 2nd gear) S-turn. I did that turn maybe hundret times that day but not with somebody in the back, and then I lost it....

The Escos do that :-D The twichy part is you know compromise - either the car understeers or becomes twichy, hard to setup car so it's stable but won't understeer :-( Epecially old car like Escos. But maybe Brom would know how to do that?

I will try very hard to get there. Will try to take co-driver or my driving instructor from rally school ;-) So I have unfair advantage ;-)

Anyways I am pretty sure this is mosty about knowlege of the track. And some corners are very hard to describe. My friends from rally-school were there just week after you and they did the best lap I think 9:08 i standard STI Peter Solberg Edition (300bhp, active diff). So it's still over a second per kilometer slower then factory test drivers do in those. I hope to learn the track a bit, but can't afford to go full throttle there I think... but we'll see.

Anyway - as I said I am impressed (I don't know if I expressed myself right) - you did very quick laptimes and it looks slow - that is good, no fighting with the car.

Stu @ M Developments Sep 30, 2005 08:38 AM

Fair play Chris, very impressive speeds round there.  :top:
It was deadly out there that weekend.. very greasy indeed.!

Looks like that. Wet driving is damn tricky. I was surprised to hear so much tire squeel (or what do you call the noise?). Was this some very expensive tire?

I can give out lots of driving tips although executing all of hem in practise does not work everytime ;-)

I will try hard tought. Currently new suspention from Chris is going into the car, the body shop for 1-2 weeks and I start practise for Easter ;-)

Mike Rainbird Sep 30, 2005 09:00 AM

Every time I get to 91% the server resets :wall:  :(.

Finally got it to load :top:.

Very quick considering the limited amount of laps you have under your belt :top:.

Funny listening to Si's comments ;). I "think" Matt timed a wet lap serepticiously, best ask him ;).

cossymad Sep 30, 2005 12:23 PM

I was using Yokohama Parada 2 tyres which are so much better in the dry!!
Suprisingly though there was a fair bit of grip in the places I was least expecting, and at other times it was like ice skating!!

Mike you always said you didn't know or want to know what time you took to complete a lap, and nor do I really although it is quite handy to know, as everyone always ask's.
"there is no such thing as a perfect lap" ;)

Stu @ M Developments Sep 30, 2005 12:59 PM

Efe (I presume) commented twice on your breakes Chris, what setup are you running if you dont mind me asking pal?

You've got enough money put in your car so that even Tommi Makinen wouldn't do anything about it in mine.....

I better by some Sparco underpants as well - top that :p ;).
Well I can get full safety equipment with sparco pants, socks and t-shirt. I'm going to have much much better laptimes then
