Default zetec exhaust....cat...help needed.....?

My wife has a 1600 zetec...over a period of time the car got more and more slugish....so I gave it a good service...anyways it was the same..... someone said it could be the catalitic converter they block up??? so tonite I removed the front pipe and had a look inside a what did I find it was blocked. So I shook the zorst and the inners fell back inside thus freeing the blockage

My questions....

does the material in the cat move about when new or is it fixed?

do I junk the cat and weld a straight thro pipe(11 months MOT left)keeping the lambda sensor?

do I just refit it and fingers crossed?

Any help would be useful

Thanx in advance

Si

Cat should be fixed.
Cheapest way imo would be to just fish/knock out what’s left n bolt it back up fa now.
Obv replace it when one comes up b4 the next mot tho
