Dan Brown's 'The Da Vinci Code'

Read this on holiday and was just wondering if any one else on here had read it and what they made of it? :?

slowpoke Aug 12, 2005 04:49 PM

good time shell ?

matt :top:

Hannah Aug 12, 2005 04:49 PM

finished it a couple of weeks ago really enjoyed it. some parts were a bit heavy going... think need to read it again though.

did you not like it?

Iain Mac Aug 12, 2005 04:52 PM

Thoroughly enjoyable tale but it is a work of fiction, rather like the bible and all those other holy books.

There may be elements of truth to it, like the hidden things in Michaelangelo's pictures, but I can't believe how worked up some people have became, accusing Mr Brown of blasphemy and who knows what else.

He's written some other books and I would particularly recommend Angels and Demons, which is where you learn why the Vatican owed him a favour in The DaVinci Code.

rapidcossie Aug 12, 2005 04:53 PM

loved it!

Shell Aug 12, 2005 05:00 PM

Pokie: I had a really good time thanks :content: :content:

Hannah: Yeah i thought it was dead good, and to an extent i think i beleive it...

So much so that i bought the book 'Holy Blood and The Holy Grail' yesterday...

Just wondered if any one else beleives it and are the rumours true that its going to become a film?
:D

Matt J Aug 12, 2005 05:05 PM

No rumours, film is in production with tom hanks as robert langdon :top:

Great book, though as the knife states, a work of fiction and i much prefered angels and demons you must read that if you liked the da vinci code

tonyk Aug 12, 2005 05:05 PM

Really good book, you should read angels and demons to. They are making a da vinci code film, tom hanks stars in it.

Shell Aug 12, 2005 05:11 PM

:content: cool... i shall look forward to that, was looking on holiday, at the special edition illustrated version' parts of it would have been more clearer if i had seen this, for example that band what Silas wears around his leg, i imagined it to be alot more grousome than it actually is!!

CossieGirl Aug 12, 2005 05:32 PM

Read "The Da Vinci Code", "Angels and Demons" and "Digital Fortress".
Preferred Digital Fortress. :top:

"The Da Vinci Code" is just a typical "If I tell the story like this and add a trillion plot changes, they will deffo turn it into a movie"-book.

So... not bad but have read better books ;)

Am curious about the movie though! 'Coz in my mind I did NOT see Tom Hanks when reading about Robert Langdon

frog Aug 12, 2005 05:39 PM

Loved all of them :top: Don't really care if true or not, had me wanting to turn page after page, could not put them down

Ian M Aug 12, 2005 06:03 PM

half way through reading it now.

then i will read angels and demons.

Boost Junky Aug 12, 2005 06:13 PM

I didnt picture Langdon as Tom Hanks either. Deffo more of a Harrison Ford in his Indi days........ (thats probably waaaay to obvious tho )

andy_st200 Aug 13, 2005 12:36 AM

Andy,

He's written four books, and they're not connected, aside from using the same character in some.

Deception Point is pretty good too, but Angels and Demons is superb!

If you like that stuff, and enjoy a bit of hostorical interest, have a try of Wilbur Smith's "River God", and then "Seventh Scroll" - very entertaining!
