im thinkin of openin a car shop
fancy a change in career and could quite fancy opening a motorist discount type shop or a tuning type one, tbh i think a discount shop would be better suited to where im thinkin as the nearset one is about 5miles away, can you make a decent livin from these shops???

All the Motorfactors near me make a FORTUNE! They're all independent and supply all the local garages and main dealers(really) with spares.
They can get me almost anything the next day at good prices,thats what your up against mate.

Get a local web design firm to do you a site template, buy some adult webspace and a maintenence contract and link to as many sites as you can offering some quality free content, charge a members fee for even better content then have the subscription fees paid into your business account fortnightly....easy money
I highly recommend Michelle Manzer btw very easy to work with!

i work for motorworld and plan to do the same in a few years.
At the mo, people expect u to have 1 of everything they might ever need in stock, however obscure.
Id advise going wotking for some of these places for a bit and gain some contacts, find out cost prices for everything u can, and work out where u can open up with least competition.......im tryin to work that out the now.
i can rhyme off the cost prices and profit margins on lots of stuff, but at motorworld, they make nearly fuck all on alloy wheel n tyre packages.
Id advise either breakin cars to start off with or sellin the stuff on a website (no overheads for premises/staff etc)
Any questions on stuff, feel free to email or PM me

as for the shop idea fen, sounds like a good idea, but will be a lot of hard work i imagine, probs more than you think in all fairness, but good luck all the same

cannot be any more stressfull or harder than the job i do now tbh mate, sounds a fukin dodlle in fact, buy/sell book keep, now i am on the go all fukin day etc etc and its just toooo stressfull, i have already got 2 small businesss of my own so im not new to it, im just sick to death of doin the same shite every day, would rather be involved in car side of stuff for a job, i would have approx 70k in the bank to buy,stock, set up shop , advertise etc etc so i reckon i could make a good go of it if i could get some good suppliers sorted, my mate has a couple of big shops doin kinda the same thing and he seems to do ok, really pissed off with the job atm, ebven thought about doin propertys up as i am pretty good at it, confused as fuck tbh

I work for a motor parts factor they have a chain of 22 shops, we carry £200k of stock and still regularly each day have to go to our other local branhes as we don't have the right parts on the shelf and order parts next day, 1 of the branches carrys £350k of stock and even they have to use the other branches.
The best way nowadays is to be internet based offering next day delivery from suppliers that way you have next to no outlay..... spare bedroom, PC and a fax machine
