I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
just fowarded this to a friend of the family who actually owns the car hes just come out of prison an 10 years for armed robbery ive also saved the thread as its evidance that the car was never purchased from him and he wants it back hes been in contact with the dvla about the car and they would not give him any details just fowarded his details to the current owner

Morally i'm not sure its right, theres loads of scenarios i can picture, guy dying in hospital while your out trying to get in to his Escos, but then technically its still not yours? Your just landed with the responsibilty of taxing it, not actually owning it? Don't get me wrong i would jump on it should i find one (i doubt it) and tbh i think if anyone was gonna come clobber him him they would have by now?

And the moral of the story - Don't be a twat and get banged up for armed robbery!!

if it is true then fair play lol i would if i could! and the dvla wouldent have just give it away at the end of the day if they had written to the former keeper and had no response plus if it hadent been tax,ed insured or mot,ed in that long or made sorn then its not cared for is it and if the guy in prison story is true then f""k him scum bag lol

if you tell the police youi found a "dumped car" and said you'd like to claim it they do the same by trying to contact the previous owner, if they cant in 14 days then they will let you claim it. done it on loads of casrs in the past when it use to cost to scrap cars, not sure if its still the same these days though, if you just took it without any authorisation its considered theft by finding. i knoiw where there a 3 door sitting un touched in herst, may have to have a gio at this again next time im down that way.

they wouldnt, they contact the current owner by sending them a letter warning that someone else has applied for the log book, if you object then to contact them, if you dont they send the logbook to the new keeper. completly legal im afraid

Well its been a few years since this got bumped
shame a couple of the pics have been taken down but surprised some of the photobucket pics are still working
Did you ever go see about the 3 door?
Mate of mine knows of a few cars but he's never bothered going after them, last one I heard of was a audi s2 but that was sitting for a few years then went one day, told him he should have put more effort into getting it.

Unfortunately, what this person has done is commited theft. He has no legal right of ownership of that car.
Being the registered keeper of a car is not the same as being the owner of it. This person has simply registered the car as his, and then stolen it. When the real owner comes along and wonders where their car is, and reports it as stolen (which they eventually will), then the new 'owner' is screwed. All the real owner has to be able to prove, is that they bought the car, and owned it, and im sure somewhere theyll have paperwork for the car.
As the new 'owner' of the car has not really made any decent effort to trace the real owner of the car, then they are now guilty of theft.
It even says on your V5 that being the registered keeper of the car does not mean you own it ffs.
I warn anyone thinking of trying this, not to, you are commiting theft, plain and simple.

As far as the DVLA is concerned as with any job, don't know their ass from their elbow or it may have been a newbee at the DVLA who decided especially if the op said he'd contacted plod etc etc just him the V888 I think it's called and then...... I feel sorry for the poor sod that has unlawfully lost his/her car and seriously doesn't know where to find it!! Plus if the current registered keeper has put a personal/private plate on it then it will be almost impossible to find it. Note I said almost
I'm a true believer that "WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND and the OP has basically "taken this car without the owners consent and could eventually end up paying more than £450
