Want to do a half marathon for charity in a few months time.
Any tips as to getting fitter quicker and getting the distance up?
Oh yer and I'll be looking for sponsorship soon so get your hands in your pockets
It'll be for a good cause , haven't chose the charity but open to suggestions for the charity

Just do a few mile every other night, depends on how fit you are, soon get used to it.
lol......
i done the Bupa half marathon in Newcastle a few years back.
was going to train, never did one mile training , the pain after the run,my god was i sore and stiff.
Did do a good bit of running when in school and kept it up afterwards.
Stopped about 10 years ago and could not be arsed training, was easy enough though.
Dave.

Legend
My M8 does half marathons, he did his first full marathon this year in 3hrs 43mins, fooker...
I went out running with him once and made him put a burger in his back pocket as an incentive to keep up.
Runnings rubbish and also the reason god invented cars.

Do you think that running sometimes only once a week is not enough to build up a good fitness level ? As with my work commitments i sometimes can only get to go once a week and i allways seem to be back where i started i.e only being able to do a couple of miles a run , if i can get to go 3 times a week by the 3rd run i can get up to about 5/6 miles but then if i have to leave it a week i am back down to about 3 miles .

Ran the 2001 London Marathon without training in 3 hours 51 minutes Slept on Blackheath in a car, had a breadroll for brekkie and went and ran it
I was a fit soldier then tho
the advise i was given, which i didnt take, was to build up slowly, and eventually, i should not be running more than 15 miles.
DO NOT RUN IN THE FEW DAYS PRIOR TO THE RACE!!!
Cheers
Ben

I'm doing a few runs this year and run about 25 - 35 miles a week, I've got a few 10K and Half's comming up. My advice to you would be
Join a local running club
Look at Runners World web site this will give you tips on Footwear, nutrition and most important a training plan
Don't over train as your first few weeks are very important as this is when niggles and problems will be ironed out, treat yourself to a good pair of running shoes and dual layer socks, this will help with blisters etc while your feet toughen up. A good running shop can give you advice on what footware will suit your running style, support is the key.
PM me if you like and I can talk the ears of you on this subject

Have been a serving soldier for 7 years now and am pretty fit, not psycho paratrooper fit but can more than hold my own.
Went running tonight and did 5 miles after having consumed 14 bottles of smirnoff ice last night.
I could do the 13 miles with out a doubt but I want to get myself to that level where I am running just short of that when I go out for runs in the evenings
I will have a look at the Runners World website and I have a good pair of running shoes.
Cheers for your advice
