tyres for a sierra cosworth

I've just bought a set of compomotive TH's in 17x8 for my sierra Cosworth 2wd.

I'm looking into tyres and what's best to buy and sizes.

I've been thinking 205/40/17 for the front and 215/40/17 for the rear.

Don't really what to have to mod the arches if I can get away with it.

I've heard a few recommendations for the Yokohama AD08RS.

what other recommendations are there?

cheers Matthew

For what use ? what weather ? Hard to beat some of the Michelins if they're available in your size.

I have a sapphire, mainly summer use, I don't drive it hard but don't want to fit budget tyres either

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (or 4S if you can get them). I have them on my Escos and they are outstanding

It's a 3 door cossie Lee, was about to order Toyo Proxes TR1s, 215/40/17 all round, as think 225s would be too wide for the rears, I'm trying to avoid the euro stretched look, I prefer the tyre to protrude beyond the wheel & give the rim some protection, obviously without causing any rubbing issues.
Thanks.

What width wheel do you have ?

Plenty of good tyre info and tests on the Tyre Reviews channel on youtube.

And of course some tyres fill out better than others. The Michelin PS4's I put on my car, 275/40x18 filled out better than the previous makes 285/35. Hell..I even think they were bigger than the 275/40 888 I had some time before that.

Toyo are just an average tyre really

i would run 205/40/17 on front and 215/40/17 on rear.. not unless your arches are cut already i would be hackn bodykit on a 3door for the sake of a set of alloys imo.. i run that size on uncut kit etc with rs500 splitter no issues at all

Wheels are 8 x 17 et35

I'd think 205 or 215 would look quite stretched on an 8" rim

To not look stretched, I'd say it'd need a minimum of 225-235, and even that would just about be square on the rim

7" rim would have made more sense, or at most 7.5"

BIG LEE 30-09-2023 04:46 PM

if you want tyre to sit flush with rim i think you need 225s but there wont go on a 3door easy not unless you have cut arches etc.. id say without known spec of car etc its eather streched tyres are try selling them and get 7 or 7.5j rims instead

I recently tried Michelin mps4s on a different car with alot of power and they are very good tyres considering not a semi slick

I was definitely impressed by the PS4 on my own car on the road.

Plus as a bonus ( although I rarely drive it in the wet ), they'll grip better and be far safer than any semi type tyre will in wet conditions. Which for the road is important.

Hopefully they'll last longer too. Longevity on all other tyres I've used has been pathetic ! lol 888's among the worst, despite no great grip either.

I don't think our weather up here would warrant the PS4S over the regular PS4, as it's just generally colder and damper here, than say the south of England might be
