Default New car to the fleet Twizy

Today I bought a Renault Twizy. I will use it for school runs as next yr my daughters school is up a thin lane and the Twizy will be able to nip past the traffic. They are supposed to be like go karts...not driven it yet.

i am going to camo wrap it and have the wheels in something shocking

You're going to need a bigger garage!

Always a good question

Looks interesting, will be interesting to see how you get on with this. I've been looking into wrapping cars as I would like to wrap the audi coupe i've got. Will you be doing it yourself or someone else?

I'd have thought that a car would be easier than that as not so small and fiddly sections. At least the audi's an old one so less curves

Update on the Twizy: I have driven it all week so far, not used another car at all. It is great fun, every drive is like a track day but not silly speeds, it’s all about keeping it smooth, conserving speed and planning your regen braking to charge the battery.

Through twisty and tight bends which makes up a lot of where I live it can leave cars for dead as you can use lots of the road to pick out the entry and apex etc. I have ordered a tuning box which gives over 70% more torque and adds 10 or more mph...I think this will make it as quick or quicker than most vanilla cars to 30 mph. 0-30 in around 4.3 which is pretty good.

i am getting 50 miles to a charge which is easily enough for the school run and bombing around town.

My 10 yr old puts it away at night and drives around the garden in it.

Fitted in to a gap today that a car would not get in to.

At the moment it is limited to 53 but that will become 70 soon although I don’t think I will go that fast on B roads too often. 50 miles seems about sensible range which does not sound a lot but it’s amazing how many short journeys I do and if I was going to a friend 40 miles away I could just plug in and come back later.

the regen on braking adds about 4 miles range but I can adjust that to make lift off braking more fierce and add more.

I does get some looks.

she has been out tonight, practicing 3 point turns and reversing around the corners on her mirrors. She then put it was in the garage with no instruction from me.

I think they are a great little car. I wanted one for the wife for the school run and her to get to work because it’s only around 3-4 miles per day,
im I correct in thinking you rent the batteries on them?

Yes but it looks like the contract will end and you can buy a 90 mile range and more powerful battery good for 70 mph.

Cheap, I paid under 5k, 4.5 is about right. Lots of aftermarket options, 3.5k is about the lowest. I am talking to a company who can ditch the battery and do 90 mile range and 70 mph.

Not a bad idea, maybe a torque fill until the turbo is at full boost?

A lot. About 3200 euros but if you cancel the lease with Renault on their battery you will save 50% of that over 3 yrs. if I can write off some against income tax then it becomes quite cheap factoring all that in.

I have just upgraded the speakers and added dab radio and today I will change the gearbox oil for Mobil 75/90 as that makes them really quiet.

the local wrapping Guy is working on the urban camo.

sounds good, getting the 70mph and a 90 mile range would be great, I looked into the battery lease and the more miles you do the more expensive per month it is so at least you won't have any monthy costs.

How can you make it work with the income tax? Is that because you have a business?

Yes, as self employed the battery is a cost against my business...just the same as having something break on a car or van/ other running costs such as new tyres.

if you buy a brand new elec vehicle you can actually write off the whole cost in yr 1, I.e. Ł10k purchase means you won’t pay tax on that 10k so that is a Ł4000 discount right there, the down side is if you then sell it the return money is added back to your tax bill.
