Default Anyone use Mondeo 2.5t as a daily?

Hi everyone,

Anyone using the 2.5t engined Mondeo? Fancy one as a daily driver but my commute maybe as much 50 miles a day on country roads.

Do I go for 2.5t or the 2.2tdci? Just thinking of the fuel economy difference.

Diesel with a quality remap from MSD. My boss has the 2.2 titanium sport x and send it to MSD.

I've done a few repairs to a 2.5t of one of our customers and tbh found it a bit disappointing to drive.

My wife has a Focus ST 2.5t and it averages 19mpg around town.

I had one last year for a couple of months. I wanted a sensible-ish car to replace my Megane R.S. and it came up locally with low miles. While it was a nice car and had plenty of toys (it was a Titanium X), I was disappointed with it to be honest. It never felt that quick, the engine was extremely muffled and, compared to the ST220 I owned a few years ago, it just felt a bit dull to drive. It had lost the response and feel that made older Mondeos such good cars to drive. Maybe a Titanium X Sport would feel a bit sharper, but I was left a bit cold. Was a shame, as I thought it might be quite a good car. I've had several Mondeos of various generations, but this one was my least favourite of all of them. Mine used to average high 20s MPG. The Mondeo has longer gearing than the Focus ST, which helps, but does dull the performance a bit. I mostly used mine for A-road/motorways which helped the economy I suppose. If it's a daily, I would probably just buy a diesel one. The 2.5T isn't really worth the extra fuel in reality. They did a 200PS 2.2 diesel which is probably the best option.

Mine got written off by a girl in a Fiesta after two months, but I wasn't really sorry to see it go in all honesty. If you're after that sort of car for Ł3-5k, I would probably go B6 Passat or E9* 3-Series to be honest. The Mondeo has lost its edge as a driver's car, so you might as well have the nicer badge and better quality interior. If you do want a MK4 Mondeo, watch out for steering rack failure. You have to replace the rack, pump, lines, reservoir if it fails, and it can get expensive.

I wouldn't buy another to be honest.

I've got the 2.2 tdci titanium x sport. It's ok on fuel and its quick for a diesel. I've seen good power figures with a remap. Cracking cars are these mk4 mondeos. I had a 2.5 V6 mk3 mondeo before this and they are like night and day.

Cheers chaps, I think the 2.2 diesel would be the more sensible choice I was just thinking I could use the 2.5 on track ocasionaly too but guess I can do that with the diesel. Would definately look at a remap, should see close to 200bhp if I get the 170bhp version.

Glenn, how long have you had your Mondeo mate? What miles? Been ok?

I've had it a year now matey. It's got 96k on it now. I had problems with the dpf when I bought it but the garage I bought it from sorted it for me. According to the old ford mondeo mk4 sales brochure the face loft mondeos(like mine) suppose to have 200bhp and 420nm torque.

I did a pair of rear trailing arm bushes on it last week. It took me about 1 and a half hours to do the pair on ramp..

These titanium x sports come with plenty of toys. I love the heated and cooled seats on it.
