American BHP vs European BHP
Is there any difference to the way the above is measured?
Having a discussion with a mate of mine who’s right into his Impreza’s, he reckons that the yank Impreza builds make a few more hundred BHP than what is achieved over here (obviously different spec turbo)
He thinks that the uk isn’t capable of building engines to the same power level as over there, he spoke to his engine builder and after discussing a big spec’d engine, he was shocked that the builder says it was only good for 750hp, he thinks over in America they’d run it at 1000.
Im not convinced, I says either they measure in a different unit, talk shit or generally make the power but last 5 minutes.
I have noticed stupid power levels quoted for Honda Civics and even Zetec/duratec engines, rivalling what a YB has made over here and that is a closed deck siamese block vs open.
Would like to hear your thoughts.

Loads of bullshit about bhp...always has been. The amount of 1000 bhp cars you hear of....Watch USA tv...everything is exaggerated

I see lots of this being in the Evo market. Airflow and fuel type dictates what a engine can make the USA market is prone to exaggerated figures. Take there at the wheels figures as to the wheel figures which means at the flywheel lol.

One thing I noticed is on their Dynojet dynos that measure WHP, there doesn't seem to be much load on the dyno.
The car seems to accelerate without any or much resistance compared to dyno's I've been on and seen such as Dyno Dynamics and Maha.
Remember they can get E85 from the pump as well...

Have you noticed if any US evo engine makes more hp on a similar spec engine and turbo than you have done on an Evo?

E85 will make a big difference aswell, my gtr from v power to just e50 gains over 100 hp, e85 will be even more
i can't find the plots ATM but I think my gtr went from 808 whp on v power to 928 whp on e50

Americans do tend to use more exotic fuels, as they are usually much more accessible/available. But the general consensus is Americans either are deluded/confused/lying about their inflated figures. Things that have been proven to make X amount power and no more elsewhere suddenly make huge extra power in America.

As mentioned already lots of the tuned US cars are on E85 so they get away running mega boost in lots of applications

Doing what I do I can see the wood through the trees where many won’t.
Without doubt there are some great tuners in the USA but the market as a whole is a joke imo.

They were then backed up with I think over half a second out of the 60-130 mph time, the problem is theres bullshit everywhere in all country's including the UK, there's some cars here that have dynoed big power but there performance doesn't match the fairyland figures lol

Interesting topic and good to see people’s input

However...there are also many American cars that will blow away UK cars over the 1/4 mile, both ET and trap speed. So unless their timing is wrong, the strip is downhill ( which to be fair...a lot look it in videos ) then some of the cars are very much making the power, and the UK cars falling well short of how theirs should perform.
That said, there are also a few making big power claims, that fall short of what they should do at the strip.

Everythings lazy in America, lazy to rev, cars are heavy. They need stupid power just to get close to figures lighter european cars would make.
E85 is available in quite a few places so surprised more people don't use it.

Most US cars are faster, and they do use E85 because it is available.

I can remember ian Howell built his evo engine and he purchased a ams inlet manifold and he did some sums and he reckoned that there was no way would it produce the numbers in a responsive track engine. He called ams up and they said it will Defo do over 1000bhp without a problem when you run 60 psi through it lol , what mugs gonna do that without billet blocks etc , just crazy.
but there is some very powerful cars without a doubt as they simply would get the times or speed they get .

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
well i'm shipping 2 engines in from the states this year for 2 projects, 1 is an ecoboost 3.5 v6, this will be mapped to max it with what its got from factory, one tuner says he can get 429hp, 610lb/ft on pump fuel, we will see, the other is a 2018 ford v8 coyote, 32v, the latest gen3 coyote, this is being built with forged internals and will have all the right bits, including 2 nice turbos, so we will see if the american claims are true, i won't be happy if they come up short,
