Default Price and time to renew a fan pack?

Hi,

I took my car to the mechanics as the bonnet smelled of burning and the car was rattling. The temperature was almost on red, causing the fan to almost apparently blow.

The mechanic has had my car for 4 days now and he has said the fan belt needs replacing. My car is a Ford KA Titanium 11 plate. He sounds very dodgey as he isn’t giving me a straight answer to any questions so I’m quite anxious.

does anybody know how long a job like this would take as i really need my car, and also... a rough price of a job like this?

Id appreciate any answers-
thank you

Questions to ask Mechanic;

What exactly is wrong with the car, as him to write it down as you're talking to Ford people on a forum who are trying to help.?

How much approximately and how long?

Is it the CAM belt or the FAN belt or the AUXILIARY belt?

(P.s there's an element of Subterfuge in the questions)

Post the replies.

If the temp gauge is in the red and the engine is rattling then it's probably already had it. Take it to someone who knows what they are doing, sounds like this bloke doesn't have a clue.

That is what is worrying me, is the rattling just the fan or is it the engine rattling as the engine is shot? Hopefully it is just the first one.

Kayleigh, where (ROUGHLY) in the UK are you as I wonder if someone on here could cast a quick eye over the car to tell you what it looks like or recommend someone local for a second opinion.
