Default Volvo S60's - any good?

Evening all,

I'm looking at a 56 plate Volvo S60 tomorrow as a new daily and just wondered if any of you guys have had any experience with them and if you know of any common issues with them?

Now I know theyre hardly the last word in style and are a little bit old man ish but I spend a lot of time cruising up and down the motorway collecting and dropping back my daughter so I think these might be a good mile muncher. Certainly a lot more comfortable than my 1.6 Seat Leon! I can't really see anything else for the money that floats my boat.

Due to having an accident recently which has left my left ankle pretty mullered and in a bad way, I need an auto for the time being to be easier on it. I can drive a manual but I'm struggling with the clutch a bit and is also quite painful when pressing the pedal Not really a fan of autos but hey ho

thanks in advance

Gaz.

I had a s60 d5 and loved it .Lots of power on tap, fantastic diesel engine. My only gripe would be rear access and back seat room.
Never had a problem with it

Isn't it the V50 and V60 that are based on the Ford Focus?

yeah I did notice that the rear leg room is not what you'd call generous for a car of the S60's size! I'm not too worried about that though as it'll only be my little girl riding in the back.

I haven't ruled out a T5 but I've been recommended to buy a D5 by an ex Volvo technician as apparently they were bulletproof and drove the best in his opinion. I'm not usually a diesel fan but I have seen quite a few mega mileage D5's for sale so that says they're good for it!

Well the 56 plate one was a no go, clean enough car for the age but quite a few things wrong with it. Anti Skid system service required on dash (the guy said the traction control system needs a service! ), sunroof wouldn't work on the slide function but ok on the tilt function, boot wouldn't open electrically via the key or the button on the boot, both front tyres bald on both edges, no evidence of timing belt being done and a few other bits. The guy basically refused to do a deal with me and got stroppy with me so told him to stick it and walked off.

looked at another one on the way home in Luton (should've known it was gonna be a shed due to the part of Luton it was in!) this time a 58 plate. That one wasn't great either. Mirrors not working, aftermarket stereo fitted rendering the standard sat nav as much use as inflatable dartboard and throwing various messages on the dash, very little service history and no evidence of a timing belt being done, boot which looked like they'd been transporting shitty oily car parts in it with oil all over the carpet, moody paintwork on the near side door and best of all, the roof was really badly dented like someone had been jumping on the roof. Needless to say I left that one too!

the search continues! I remember now how much I hate car hunting! Lol!

I was after a v50 t5r estate before I changed my mind and bought a c class. nice looking cars but the specs didn't seem that impressive . the road tax cost was also really high.
