Default Ford fair 2018

So who went? Was it a good show? I feel a bit gutted I didn't go with it being the 50 years of the RS model.

I didn’t go Glenn as I’m not an owner anymore, but we drove back from near London today so a lot on the M40 and all I saw mainly were Focus STs and RS’s and Fiestas, I saw the odd Saff and MK1 Escort, no 3drs, times certainly have changed on the RS scene, I recall 6-8 yrs ago we’d convoy down from Warwick services and it’d be Cossies everywhere, where have they all gone?? Ornaments I guess??

I went as usual - was actually a good show. Decent stands and track time. Drove virtually straight in at 6.35am despite the official opening time being 7am. Showsec were doing the security so might have just opened it up when there were enough cars?

Mate and i went in our Ford 36 Pickup. Full of popping n farting Focus, RS's and Fiestas.
Older stuff is diminishing every year. Like it or loathe it (I liked it), we saw a 3dr Mk 1 Sierra with a Lexus 4.0 V8 in - very well done and nice bloke
Expensive day out with Ł27 entrance, fee, Ł9 for a pizza and Ł2.60 for a bottle of drink.
Just my opinion
Kevin

Unfortunately as said from many people many times before.
Times have changed, new cars come into the scene, older cars are becoming expensive compared to the newer ones.
I remember years ago there were loads of 3 Doors, Sapphires, RSTs etc, but its now the same with newer Focus and Fiesta etc
The good days we all had were great, but most are now in collections or tucked away.
No easy answer to everything really

I defo think the more these old RS are going up in value the more people are stop using them.

Looking at the pics of the internet there seems to be a lot of nice cars there.

That is why I went to RSCombe for their Anniversary day for the Sapphire and Escort Cosworths. The most I have seen together in one place for a long time and the parade laps were good fun.

I went
some cozzys there but so much new stuff
focus/fiesta
so probably the last time for me and my mates

going to start going to more different ones from now

lol I am old but most of the cars there were not

and the track time was unfortunately boring to watch
with only one or two trying to push it

I like the modern stuff but seeing row upon row of it does nothing for me plus the pop n bang heroes is not for me, would like to see more diverse selections of all models and then I might start attending again but I reckon that ship has sailed, was there only briefly for a hour or so as was dropping van load of parts off to a pal on his trade stand

Fordfair was great and I am biased LOL . The gates were opened up earlier to avoid all the stuff that happened last year so everyone got in without queuing for hours and there was a good few things to look at and see . There is new stuff there and yes its a bigger percentage of the turn out but Ive been doing fordfair long enough to remember the moans about the cossies being to new ect ect so these complaints are not knew lol .

As I said there was plenty of things to look at I organised the 50 years of RS with the support from Jamie King and Kelsey and was busy all day and no one seemed to be disappointed with the show as a overall as I talked to a good few of visitors . Anyway here is a few pics of the stand

The show was full of focus and fiestas unfortunately, there were cossies of every variety there and a few older stuff but the show is getting worse, the individual displays were shoved out of the way but grouped into models, the escorts and sierras may as well have been on the carpark, the trade side was shocking im sure it gets smaller every year, I still had a good day looking at the older stuff though and bought some new hoses so not all bad, on the way down on the m1 a very nice sapphire cosworth joined me on my journey so I got to look at that through my rear view as well

they should just ban any modern Ford to the carpark imo...... specifically the Focus and Fiesta clubs. No one wants them there!!!

Just let all the PROPER enthusiasts attend with their expensive garage ornaments.

I've also go nothing wrong with the newer cars. Let's face it most people who have to newer cars will have finance on them.

I really wish I had seen the 50th year display.

not me mate I paid cash for my one

a pal of mine was on the 50th anniversary display, with his focus 500, that would have been a good stand to be on I’ve not been to ford fair for years, can’t remember the last time I was there tbh

That is def a big part of the reason.

Rather than enjoying their cars (the older pre 1998 stuff) and showing them off or driving them people just look at them as investments now and keep em in garages to polish because they are creeping up in value.

Sad to see it like that but it’s all about the money...

Ideally it needs to be arranged in a way that’s age related or model related so that way people can walk around the cars they do wanna see instead of walking through fields and fields of focus st’s and rs’s....

that's a good idea matey.
The reason I hardly use my saff now is cause I don't get time cause of my 2 year old boy I take it to work every now and then and that's about it.

Years ago I wouldn't think twice about using it to go food shopping in but these days I would be scared in case I came out and A there was damage to it and B in case there was parts missing off it when I came back to the car.

A few years back some one pinched my drivers door mirror glass when the car was on my drive lol.

When you think. About it ford fair could survive with
just the modern fords as there was lots

and then have a different show for the cosworth stuff
or merge the cosworths with a different show

I went to the ford show at snetterton last year
and other than the weather that was a good show
with loads more fords of all sorts than I thought would be there
and good track action

My Saff gets used properly, yes it gets a lot of cleaning but its to be driven and enjoyed. I have never looked on it as an investment in the 23 years I have owned it but I do have an agreed value on it which is sensible in case it did get stolen or written off.

I know mate, good on you,
there are a few peeps out there that still use em a lot but saying that there’s prob only about 10-20% of classic fords that are these days, the rest are ‘investments’ or stay in garages being polished...

National Day is the same sadly, that used to be a great show only 4-5yrs ago, now it’s half the size it was, I went to the show last year even though I’ve not owned a Cossie for 3 yrs plus now and it was sad to see, not only for the cars, but the banter we all used to have., that’s why I loved the most, nice cars were just a bonus

No they didn't. There were a few of the regulars on the 50th Anniversary stand or the Saff 30th stand , but no club stand

I don’t think there’s many in this group anymore tbh.

I went to one of their meets a year or so ago and was like 6/7 cars max, from what I hear it’s never busy

Totally agree. Been doing the same for the last few years and its great to be with a really varied mix of cars. Some Village events even supply a drink and a piece of cake to Driver and Passenger as a thank you for bringing your car. Of course there's usually no entry fee either! Sadly not done anything this year due to ill health but there's always next year!
Cheers, John

Ah the annual Ford Fair moan off I couldn't go this year unfortunately, but it sounds like it was as big as always.

A certain irony in people moaning about the lack of older cars when some of the moaners are the ones that own them. If you want them there, take one Also, I don't really understand the "I'm not interested in new stuff, it should be grouped so I only see the stuff I like." Aren't we all petrolheads? Can't people appreciate cars of all shapes and types? It's still the biggest and best Ford show by a country mile. Maybe the best thing Kelsey could do is ban owners of older RS models, as so many of them are snobby, clique-obsessed old farts

I saw Paul's Flint Saff in some of the pics, didn't see my dads Escort, but not spoken to him to see if he went...
