Calibrate sensors?
Just about ready to fire the Focus up for the first time in 3 years.
now running with an Omex 710 ecu . We've just read the manual for the Omex and it's says to calibrate the water and air temp sensors by putting them in water and then heating up and cooling down then smoothing out the graph in the software problem is, everything's buttoned down now and the water sensor is almost impossible to get at is it absolutely necessary to calibrate the sensors or can we do it once the engines running and heating/cooling the water? |
If you know the exact temperature of the water...then yes you could do it with the engine running....
Or surely if it's a common application they can give you a calibration for the sensor ? If i doubt, stick a generic calibration for a typical Bosch NTC sensor, it might be close. |
Generally temp sensors sit around ambient if they have not had any external influence. Good stating point.

if youve got the recommended sensors then omex supply tables to configure the water and air temp tables . And if you have the recommended sensors then omex supply a basic map ready
failing all this the research the sensors and the temp tables are easy to find . iirc omex use a ntc sensor so the figures will be identical for both sensors |
just to add id take it to someone who knows what there doing as i wouldnt want to be filling the bores and sump with fuel on a brand new engine

It's a brand new standard Ford sensor. I can find calibration settings for Bosch HTC sensors online buy they all express the scales in ohms whereas the Omex graph is a scale from 0 to 256
there is already a base map on there from Omex and there is a scale in place when you look at the map. It's reading 100c permanently which according to the manual is the default temp which could indicate a fault on the sensor or the wiring. Well have to find a way to test that first |
then simply just measure it by heating the sensor and read it with a thermometer and and a ohms meter and you will probably find they read the same and will be linear

I'd be pretty shocked of Omex or someone couldnt simply give you a calibration, it's not like it would be an uncommon application nobody has done before ?
And no, typical Bosch NTC or otherwise are not linear over their operating range. Some sensors may be, but those are not so multiple data points would be needed if you're DIY calibrating it |

That alone wont fix it needing tuned.
Have you even asked Omex or other users if they have a calibration for them ? Have you tried one for a generic Bosch NTC sensor ? ( which is probably what they'll sell you anyway ) What do they read, key on, engine off and around ambient ? |
We are on it Steve we heated the sensors and read how hot they were and got a rough with in a couple of degrees table sorted to get the car running so at least it could be shook down for leaks and potential issues and we got that done at least.
