Car lift advice please
With farthers day coming up and my birthday not long after the wife has seen me looking at car lifts online and offered to buy me one as a combined pressie, has anyone any experience with the mid height lifts? I don't have the height for full height and in reality don't need it and I like the flexibility of the more mobile types but I'm stuck between two types and that's what I was hoping for some advice on,

I have the strongman, it is brilliant. I had mine sunk flush in to the garage floor so it’s gone when I do not need it and I mounted the controls on the wall.
But the one I have is more chunky, i do not know what those ones are like.

You will be amazed how much you use it I think. Friends also pop round to swap wheels etc. I have had a 4x4 Merc people carrier up on mine which was close to the safe working limit, it was huge.

Great advice all, I just clicked on my links and I put them in the wrong way round, it's the scissor lift I'm looking more into but wanted people's experiences, sounds like they are hand. I only started looking at a new trolley jack then looked into the lifts

The good thing is that they have a good second hand market too. I do not think you will look back and they are SOOOOO much safer than a trolley jack and axle stands.
If you take an engine and gearbox out of a car I would recommend ratchet strapping the car to the ramp though as my car was VERY light on the front with these removed and I think I could have easily pushed it off the back of the ramp.

I like it. I sold an exhaust to a guy a few months ago and he had one said I should go to his house to see it. Definitely on the I need list.

The comparison with the shipping from Spain is a good point but nobody drove to Spain and back to get your box, it would have been part of a shipment on a large lorry / van.
My friend has started a covered car collection delivery service and he was asked to quote for a supercar from Italy, he quoted about Ł1500 round trip to cover all costs and the person came back and said he got a bloke to do it for Ł250 or less.

The problem is that someone still has to interrupt their day, pay for fuel and cover wear and tear on vehicle plus trailer and be insured plus the running costs of tax and insurance, they need to earn a days income. Pick it up, drop off and get home again plus they are pretty heavy to lift on and off.

I may well double check that it doesn't include set up
Or get a quote from Shipley or similar

The world is full of busy fools sadly, he's definately one of them whoever did that for Ł250, unless he pinched the car and never seen again
