best advice really (aint read the rest yet ! ) Pick a tuner that maps and builds ur engine all at once - wish i did that instead buying a second hand engine -

My 1st post was not intended as a bitch against Dave as I have know him for a long time, and he also knows I just say things as they are and give my opinion.

Its all a matter of choice for what the op wants and can afford.

All I will say is stay with a spec and stick to it. Dave will also admit to this as changing the spec will cost you more in the long run.

Paul

Very true statement it is only an old pinto lol and any competent mechanic can bolt an engine together. The difficulty in building an engine that you require to give a certain amount of horse power and torque is a very different story. Piston type and height con rod type and length head spec compression ratio cam spec solid lifters if you take that route. All these factors are not in a list in a burton catalogue lol it becomes the spec and knowledge of someone who knows how to build a high power engine not to mention knowing things like what head gasket what studs what liners. All the things that make it reliable especially if your going over 500bhp and want the big torque numbers.

Yes, basic engine BUT getting it wrong is very expensive due to the cost of Cossies....Ł10k doesn’t go far on a highly stressed 500bhp 2.0 Engine of this age and expense of modded or good parts.

Just a good basic head, porting properly to a known spec / outcome cams and putting it together would run Ł3k to Ł4k or more...Long studding, decent 200 block etc...you don’t want to risk all that money invested.....ask anyone who has seen an engine melt on the dyno.

This is very true, and why I use the tuner I use.

It’s not that simple or everyone would be doing it.

Reliability is another factor most people don’t grasp, I don’t want an engine that’s gonn alastba few months.
I want something that’s gonna taking a beating for years

Cheers Paul
