Have you had the turbo for a while? An unusual thing to happen, any idea what caused it?

There is a big difference in the cost of a new core for a turbo and buying a brand new one.
I have just had a similar issue with my Son's Subaru Impreza WRX STI. The turbo on it was a secondhand one and unfortunately we discovered it had a cracked exhaust housing and the oil seals were shot.
Could have got a new core for it for only £280 but as it is also cracked it was a better option getting a brand new uprated one.
The cost for a new core for your turbo would be a lot more of course!
