Default Mk4 escort van lowering

I’m doing a restoration on a mates mk4 van he wants it lowered. Iv seen on burtons website they offer rear gas shocks and wondered if I will still need to flip the axle.

What has anyone else done to get there van down?

You can take the springs to anyone that makes springs and get them flattened.

What I used to do was hold the rear of the van on a trolley jack then heat the leaf springs up really hot then just lower the jack to Your desired height, wait until cold enough to be able to take out.
I used to have koni dampers all round. I done this mod on about six vans with no problems. But if you do this it’s down to you as it’s always a risk especially if old. When I used to do it the leafs where only a year old.

I didn’t want to decamber them and I have heard of the heating them up but I know a mate who did this on his transit and it snapped!

I’m going to flip the axle and wanted to know what shocks people are using Iv had a message from burton power to say they stock mk3/4 gaz shocks for Ł60
