Default Need peoples expertise to help me

Evening Lads and Ladies,

needing peoples help in making the right decision for what i want to do.... im looking at a ford fiesta zetec S mk6.5 (mk6 facelift) for my next car, but im wondering whether to get the petrol or the tdci. I will be doing slight modifications to this car including an induction kit, remap, full exhaust etc and was wondering which would be the better both performance, aesthetic and reliablity wise?

First post so if i fuck up dont go mad...

Welcome to the forum

Well first off do you need a diesel for commutes? I don’t think they gain huge amounts from just a map. Hard one really as I think the petrol one will have you wanting an st instead.

As above, I think I'd be going for the ST as well.

If you're still set on a Zetec S then again as above if you're doing loads of miles the diesel one will be better on fuel but if you're not I'd go for the petrol. Even if I was doing loads of miles I think I'd still go for petrol, I hate diesels personally but it's all down to personal taste

a standard ST will be cheaper to insure than a modified zetec S

be careful with mods if you are worried about insurance costs

I thought diesels gave much better returns from a basic remap than petrol? my current merc diesel returns 45bhp and 90nm torque extra from a generic Ł230 remap from the standard 224bhp/510nm ?
the difference listed between both your fiestas is 10bhp and 1.4 seconds quicker to 60 in the 1.6 petrol than 1.6 diesel. id have thought the generic remap would switch that gap and also give better fuel economy in the diesel if you get similar 20% gains ? the standard diesels lists 20mpg more than the petrol and theyre both in the same insurance group with road tax for the diesel being Ł30 a year compared to Ł190 in the petrol according to parkers guide.
