Default Dashboard Going Crazy

Hi, I’m hoping someone could help me on here. I have just brought a Mondeo MK3 titanium X 2.0 06Reg and my dash has been doing it’s self diagnostic test while I am driving and then when it’s finished it little episode the ESP light stays on and it doesn’t illuminate the off light on the ESP button and it won’t let me switch it off, so I have to pull over switch engine off and on again and it then says off on the button and lets me turn it off then off I go again. It this this last night and first thing this morning. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

this may be as simple as a bad earth or a low battery, it could easily be on its first battery and the cold weather is causing issues as this is a sure battery killer (check to see if there is any date on it or receipts in the history)

I would also buy a fault code reader to plug into the ODB port and then look up and clear the fault codes then google what they are.

Failing that you will need a decent ford dealer or specialist to look at it.

I dont know Mondeos but this is just modern cars for you I think.#

Thank you for your help, I will check the earthing cable and the previous owner replaced the battery in 2016 and he has had it in a ford dealership garage and they said it could be the multipin connector behind the dash but he said he checked that and it still did it. Also we have had a code reader on it and nothing comes up. I will check the earth’s, also would you say to still replace the battery or should it be ok only being 2 years old ?

Does the car have stop start? These need special batteries.

Worth taking the battery off the car and giving it a good charge.

You can get electrical contact cleaner so may be worth using that on the multi pin but I would do that with the battery disconnected and then re-plug it in before connecting battery.

I meant stop start, no push start i.e. when you pull up in traffic the engine stops and then when you put it in gear the engine restarts.

I had something similar with the convers+ display on my old mk4 Mondeo. It's was diagnosed as the dash cluster at fault and as the cost of a replacement + programming was so expensive I didn't bother and just traded the car in.

I'd try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins and see if that re sets it, do that a lot in my job and works a surprising amount of times with many things. To save waiting 10 mins u can just touch both terminals together if they will reach to discharge the system quicker

I would just get some emery paper or sand paper and clean up the inside of the battery terminal lead and then clean up the actual battery posts too. You can use that on the earth points too.

Oki doki, thank you for the help, I’ve also found it doesn’t do the self test when I Have the radio and heaters etc off so it’s almost like it’s too much for the battery to handle would I be correct in saying that ? Could this mean new battery anyway?

May well be but worth giving it a good charge off the car. A mechanic told me that on some modern alternators they only charge back to where the car started from i.e. if the battery is 70% charged when you start it then that is the limit so sometimes you need to fully charge it.

Hello. I have the same problem with the dashbord on my Mondeo Mk3 2.0 diesel from 2006. The ESP light went on and the odometers ''dance'' like crazy. Also the computer bord shows - - - - - - instead of numbers. When your battery is low the odometer goes low then maximum then low again... I experienced that also few years ago, it was the battery indeed, but now it's a different behavior. Friends in my country say it's a common problem on focus and advise me to try replacing dashboard. Some say to try repair it by giving heat to the circuits. I tried that by melting all circuits from the electric board of the dashboard. It worked normally again for 1 and half day. But now I have the same issue again. I suspect is the plug or a wire... Jordycoll95, If you solved the issue please post again here. Thanks!
