People's thoughts on which cooler I should use
Ive got 2 options. Radtec WRC or pro alloy RS500 style. What's people's thoughts? It's going on my focus rs mk1 track car.

My car mapped at 469 bhp on the RS 500 one I sent you, Mark said the temps were limiting how much further he wanted to go with the engine but if you are going to be under 400 I bet you will be fine on that.

This is my problem Toby. I'm looking to be around 500.

What sort of boost will it be running to hit that sort of power?
500 on a track car is a lot of heat to deal with

2 bar mate

I wonder if you will be ok as mine was about 2.2 bar and was 50 degrees inlet on the rollers in summer, it seems to be 20-30 but sometimes over on my 100mm airtec one.

If it’s on the limit mate I might have to look elsewhere. I wonder what spec-r can offer

Pro alloy do a larger core one for escort cosworth used on reyland cosworth I think that's good for 650 bhp . Think it's a 65mm core . Pro alloy are the best fabricated and well made intercooler s I've seen personally.

Thanks for the input Paul. That is a cheap price

I think spec r would want the car to do a bespoke one but if standard escort one fits then you would be looking at Ł1200 for one of the best but not sure how long to build so maybe the pro alloy one is the way to go?

You could also try jimbo at alloy racing tabs , I know he got a load of turbo diesel lorry intercooler cores and they where big and could easily do 650 bhp + so he could custom build one for you , or buy a garret core or similar and get someone to knock the end tanks up.

Using jimbo yes, I'd use him in a heart beat. Using a diesel intercooler I'm not so sure. I'd want to know a make and efficiency rating.

To be fair I’m probably over egging the pudding. I’m sure an off the shelf jobbie from spec-r or similar will do.

The diesel cores are large cores with large finns for cooling in fact they look like the same size as pro alloy ones when I looked over them . It's not the fact it's for a diesel it's the sizes of the cores and a 650 bhp lorry needs a lot of cooling so if it works on a lorry then it will Defo work on your car . Also when mounting the cooler slightly tilt it forward or backwards around 15 degrees as this really does make the intercooler work a lot better as the cold air is passing over the cores and the fins more efficiently.

I wil, be taking a virtually brand new airtec 100mm off my car soon, it is same as the rs500 one but thicker front to back. It keeps the temps to around 20 deg on my car under load but have seen a bit higher in full summer, it is around 10-15 when weather is like it is now.

I would let you have it for 50%of what I paid for it, it's done about 200 miles on the car.

I think the airtec 100mm is one of the best you can fit before going Garrett core.

The new engine is 2.2 and a good Ł30k chunk to replace New if it went bang so seeing as there is a spec r cooler that was built to go with it available I thought is was a wise investment, especially if I go bigger turbo or if Mr Shead decides to add a bit more boost.

So striker with the new engine?
All alloy Im guessing?
And really is it neigh on 30k for the build!?
Thats mental!
Will be good though

I too was shocked at quite how much all right bits add up to.

I have gone for a second hand 2.2 liner block, not all alloy, and yes, the bill was Ł26k inc vat and then the breather and cooler etc was on top and that's with a donor block and head, if you had to source them it would add another Ł4k.
I too was shocked at quite how much all right bits add up to.

Im dont really want to quiz you about costs but what does that actually include?
ie full engine/manifolds/turbo etc?
And this is a linered 200 block and genuine cosworth head?
Whats the power aim, roughly?

Don't want to ruin Jons thread but the engine was built to over 700 and mapped just over that. The price did not include a brand new block or head, the person paying supplied them iirc, it is a nick wapples head with Harvey Gibbs cams, solid lifters, cam trigger for the ecu pick up(dizzy delete), linered 200 block with Wrc oil systemon remote filter and cooler, oil shirt jets, Wrc breather plus spec r twin cans, 10 long studs...then you go on to arrow stroker crank with rods and Pistons, billet end caps...the list goes on and on. It did include ecu, inlet an turbo etc.
I will only run it 525 on small turbo or 580/600 ish if I go 7670.

Yeah fair play, I don’t wanna ruin the op’s thread either.
So it’s already been built and ran etc?
And includes pretty much everything so that’s not too bad then
Cheers Paul

why would you not just purchase a 200 block and ask mark shead to rebuild it using parts from your current engine at a 3rd of the cost, possibly a quarter.
I don't know mark that well but i reckon he will want the cams gone lol
cheers si
