Default cv boots

anyone know where i can get inner front cv boots from for my es cos? fords are a waste of time and ive ordered 2 sets now off the internet which are supposedly correct but they are too short the originals on the right

Rocking horse do do unfortunately, I had a go a few years back at sourcing Sapphire ones or at least I tried

It will be a matter of finding aftermarket ones that match the best mate

that is the best i can find they would prob be ok when the shafts fitted back up as it compresses the inner joint so takes the tension off the boot but i fitted one off the car and because i had to stretch the boot you could see it pulling back down the driveshaft while it was sat there,plus ford obviously made them that length for a reason so i dont want to be fitting shorter ones

I had a set of but never fitted them aftermarket ones supplied by Matt Lewis Motorsport,

I bought mine from GGR. I’m pretty sure they are different to the standard items and remember similar problems. But once fitted and sitting at their normal operating height have been fine for many miles.

I’ve used rhino universal ones on all mine, u can cut it to correct size

Had the same issue finding CV boots for a MK1 Focus RS.

Got given about 3 part numbers, all were wrong.

The boots specifically listed for the Focus are only available as part of a new driveshaft at Ł600!

But it turns out that the boots for a MK3 2.2 Diesel Mondeo are exactly the same part which you can buy direct from Ford for Ł70ish

even the catalogues from the after market manufactures seem to have the wrong pictures in and some even list boots of two different diameters for the front.

what you can do under these conditions (or where the boot's seal wants to be in an incorrect position on the shaft cos the boots too short) is biuld up the shaft diameter with a few layers of black heat shrink tubing to make the boot a tight fit and if you need to 'engineer a different place' on the shaft for the seal you can build up a few layers of heat shrink each side of where you want the recess then a final top layer will shrink into the gap. the boot will then seal just fine on the top layer as the tubing is not affected by grease

6672258 is the part no. ive got, the 257 is the outer one,the ones in your middle link sound the same as what i already have at 115mm long,my orig ones are approx 130mm

Have you got the engineering number off the original?

Might pay you to do a Google search on that. I confirmed the part number for the Focus one when I searched using that number. Found a x-reference website where it listed all the part numbers that were compatible from multiple different suppliers including Ford.

have a look here. I can't see anything listed that even remotely comes close to the length of your one

update on this,hendys did get back to me and told me the part no. was indeed wrong and it should be 1638320 n/l/available and not made by any of the aftermarket companies either
a friend then sent me a pic of this one as he has one in its orig box and its actually the front outer and not the inner oneso ive let hendy know again ,so currently back to square one

Every cv boot on my Cossie 4x4 apart from 2 is a rhino universal cv boot, been on there for years and never had one split yet

Surely the shorter one will be fine, especially as it’s an inner joint boot it doesn’t need to be as flexible as an outer, just make sure it’s on nice and tight and has the correct amount of grease in it, then just check it doesn’t catch internally when moved but looking at the both of them you have more space at the joint than the original.

At the end of the day it’s only a cover to keep the grease in and the dirt out. Unless this is for a concourse Car then just get one made.
