Default Gordon Murray's mk1 Escort

This should be worth following, Gordon Murray has tasked Leicestershire firm Retropower to build a modernised mk1 Escort.

250bhp Cosworth duratec with mk3 MX5 6 spd box.

Published on 15 Oct 2017

In Episode 1 we discuss the project brief and source a car as our project basis.

In Episode 2 we will be looking in more depth at the re-engineering of the suspension and drivetrain and find out how good (or bad!) the shell turns out to be.

Our challenge is to build a re-engineered MK1 Escort that utilises technologies and processes that were unavailable or uneconomical in the 1960's whilst retaining the essence of the original car's driving experience and tailoring the whole package to our client's requirements. No easy task when the client in question designed the McLaren F1!

This is the 5th part - See Paul Linfoot's RS500 at Cosworth on it too.

In episode 5 we talk interior design with Gordon and visit Cosworth to check on progress with the engine build.

And the rest depending on there hourly rate. Some of the shit boxes we do can easily run into 800hours just for the metalwork.
At least you can get stuff for a ford. We sometimes have to make our parts.

Without doubt. I always say think of a price and double it and you will get close.

Latest episode - regarding them just 'banging on' they said from the start that it's just not possible to have a guy videoing the progress all the time

That's how it works out most of the time. And when you get into developing a car for more power, brake mods, suspension etc it can add up and try telling the customer that ! It can be a difficult conversation.
one of the cars I was very involved in building and development was in last month's Top Gear supplement on retro cars.

Expensive game restoring cars for people.
