Default Is the new Focus RS encouraging bad driving by some people?

I was in a Lidl Supermarket car park the other day which has a very narrow access road leading to it and a guy in a new Focus RS came speeding into it to get the backfires and pops and bangs. He turned around in the car park ,did it again on his way out and then came back in and did it again!! This is in a busy place where there were lots of people walking with trolleys etc and I just thought what a stupid, dangerous thing to do! He was obviously thinking it was impressing everyone but I heard several people saying " what is that idiot playing at? " I have seen it quite a few times now where Focus RS drivers just keep speeding up then heavy braking to get the pops and bangs which seems pointless to me but is a built in "feature" of the model.

No worse than the ST's and VXR's that have been doing the same for years

I think the guy was just a bell end. Don't go to Ford fair. It's just thousands of people revving the tits off their st's and letting them pop and bang.
A nice bit of anti lag, yes! Popping exhaust err no!

I would have thought that was just a general ford thing. You wouldnt see a Mercedes driver doing that. You get a better class of driver with Mercedes.

Don’t think it has anything to do with what car someone is driving, if they are a bell end they’re a bell end,

BMW drivers have a reputation for being total wankers, I doubt that’s true of all of them, but when you get a name etc it sticks like mud

Have a look on YouTube at the super car fails total comedy

Oh and for the record fast fords have always had the reputation of being associated with “chavs” remember the big fluffy dice hanging from the rear view mirror and go faster stripes, it’s nothing new, in fact it’s decades old, the focus RS has fuck all to do with it, plenty of people still drive Cosworths like lunatics too and usually end up wrapping them around a lamp post or a tree

This word chav is a relatively new thing, it used to be boy racers when I first started getting into the motor vehicle scene

because its so bland and has a generic 4 door family car look he probably feels he needs to rev it to draw attention to himself, where as an escort cosworth looks do the talking and look fast just standing still.

I do think the popping and banging that you can make happen with the new Focus RS seems to be its signature with a lot of owners. At Simply Ford in Beaulieu back in May there was a group of 5 or 6 of them all one behind the other in the queue revving the guts out of them to get them popping and banging to "impress " everyone. Most people thought it was just very annoying!!

From what I have heard there are problems already with the new Focus RS regarding the head gasket design which has caused engine problems and quite a few having to have complete new engines fitted. What they will be like long term remains to be seen.

I owned my Sapphire for 13 years and pumped thousands in to it, dream car for me as I always wanted one, Cosworths were out of reach for me when they came out but the wait was worth while, I think the vast majority of problems you get with them is when you start chasing the big horse power figures, it killed mine ultimately and I thought to myself it’s time to move on and buy a newer car which I did three years ago a bought a MK2 Focus RS great car imo, still smitten with it and love driving it which like the cossie isn’t that often, the problem with Cossies now is you can’t get bits for them, even engine parts are hard to source these days and body panels forget it

My MK2 FRS pops and bangs and it is a bit of a gimmick, with my Cosworth it was the flamer kit and the noise of the turbo when I fitted a cone filter, but having said that I wouldn’t be revving the tits off it at a show or a supermarket car park and or driving like a loon in Lidl’s car park, I would find that juvenile and annoying too, just like the thumping stereos I find that really annoying and pointless as well, but as I said in my original post the car does not make or determine how the driver will behave, it’s the person that does that

Unfortunately these days any chav scrote can be in any car he likes, as long as he can scrape together the monthly payments. Not like back in the good old days when you actually had to work hard to get something

I dont know if the driver of the Focus RS was the owner but he looked like he was about 18 years old and I did wonder if it was his car or he had borrowed /stolen it? Surely Insurance for a young lad on one must be sky high?

charlie luciano. Your Saff that you had looked very nice but what was wrong with it if every time you gave it a thrashing you were worried about it "burning leaking and smelling"? Never had any issues with mine in 23 years ,and yes it does get used properly.

Vxr owners annoy me the most, giving it welly then changing gear at low rpm making it pop, every 1 I see is doing the same,if the New frs does the same it’s another reason to not want 1.

I've noticed the same with vxr's they seem to floor it from 2k rpm and change at 3k lol, never actually seen one rev all way to redline but that's maybe because they're made of chocolate.

Exactly my point, never heard 1 getting the message, just fuds making them fart and pop.
Why you would want to draw attention to yourself when driving an Astra I’ll never know but come to think of it there was a bellend doing the same thing in a Mk2 st but it was noisy as anything.

its just another way of getting attention like having the new phone etc. 18/19/20 year old in more debt than most banks.

To be fair though some of my best cars have cost peanuts and ended up fitted with ashley exhausts that you could hear in the next town over

Used to love waking a mate up driving past his every morning and intentionally getting it to backfire, turns out I also woke the landlady of the pub opposite much to her annoyance. But that was years ago.
