Default Exporting a car from the us to the uk

I know there was someone on here that has done it already but the username I forget.

My mates after a smokey and the bandit trans am, he's found a couple of cars and looking at purchasing something soon. Anyone got any tips or info about the process I can pass on?

I imported a limousine a fair fews years back. I had it put in a container and collected it from Harwich docs, took about 14 days. You will pay 10% duty and then 20% VAT on the declared value of the goods. Shipping cost about Ł1000 i think off hand so imagine it will be nearer Ł1500 these days. I loaded the limo up stuff from Summit Racing back then!!!!!!

My mate ships them in all the time. He is on here as "The Transplanter" - called Alan.

He has a few on the boat at the moment, he MOT's them and sorts the lights etc.

Yeah thats a good way to offset the cost. I'm hoping that i'll just be able to chuck stuff in the container my work is buying in the next few months thats being sent both ways, would be ideal.

I've seen loads of stuff when I travel to america, stuff you wouldn't expect or would be rusted to fcuk in the uk. Old jag's, mg's etc that you don't see anymore in the uk.

Funny you say that actually. Last week I saw a few old Triumphs and MGs floating about too. They still love their cars over there in a big way.

I am not sure where he ships them from, I just know he picks up from the docs.
