Well its that time my diff shit itself and dnt want the expense of another or a rebuild only for it to do same again so think its time for supra diff upgrade, so how much are the kits (only) and where from i know Mark (mk) does them not sure how much but really dont want to be waiting months/yrs for it!

My bad, MT made diff covers not diff fitting kits.
Wenny has / had the blue mk3 escort that was mega quick on the drag strip but looked very close to a standar mk3 at first glance, look him up on YouTube that car was sooo quick.
I saw him crash at santa pod when a driveshaft failed on launch.

The weir kit is popular on the supra diff.

Have heard of it its about Ł150-Ł250 from memory but what does it actually do?
As I been told supra diff as it is is good for 700+ torque with the weir kit it is good for 1000+ torque im only gonna have 340-350bhp fuck knows what the torque will be prob 400 ish lb/ft torque

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Just got my supra diff kit incl. 3.73 diff for Ł450 (brand new second hand). Going to be doing the Weir kit mod which increases the preload on the clutch pack, allowing it to lock up harder and keep one wheel from spinning.
The kit is $45 or $75 depending on intended use of the diff; street or track.
Imo the rear mount from MK and the different style diff covers available to avoid cracking the Supra diff housing, are really not designed properly.
All reaction forces are directed completely wrong into the standard cosworth style mount, so I will design my own rear mount.
Look at how the diffs are mounted in the supra mk3 subframe to take up the bending moment of both axis.

that cosworth style mount works perfectly well in a cosworth
and the billet rear cover for the supra has stopped any problems

The standard diff is mounted in such a way that is a part of the cosworth subframe, hence, the acting forces are taken up in the beam. The rear support is designed mostly for vertical loads - hence the sloppy oem hanger.
Using the adapter kit, all these forces are forced through the rear cover and into the hanger, which is NOT designed to handle the torque.
The front brackets are not supported well enough through thin plates. The casing on the OEM diff is stiffening up the whole beam in this area, transfering the loads into the beam and beam mounts. The adapter brackets will inevitably twist.
Originally, the diffs are held in place in 4 places on the rear cover and two at the front, preventing front to back rotation, and as axial (to the pinion) torque.
The design is simply not good from an engineers point of view.
My reason for getting the kit is that it locates the diff correctly, so I will use it as a jig to modify my beam for the front pickups, and create a diff hanger similar to that of the 9" diffs, only larger to accomodate the lower mounting points as well.

Your front brackets are supported by nothing more than a simple plate structure which is normally stiffened up by the Cosworth diff casing, not by any means designed to cope with the added torque you introduce with your brackets.

With the diff fitting kit plus a billet rear cover there has never been a failure even with 1000bhp drag cars.
I have one of Marks 6 degree beams modded to take the diff with no kit but I previously ran the diff kit with 469 bhp and 500ftlb no probs at all.

Here is how mine is done by MK motorsport
This can take supra and normal diff
True mine is 4x4 but also it doesn't wheel spin whereas an aggressively launched 300 bhp rear wheel drive could spin the power away.

I still use the MK billet diff holder to support the MK cover...sometimes I think I need to re-register the car as an MK and no longer a Pug.

For what it's worth I have a weir kit fitted to my supra diff and it's mounted in a kit on a standard rear beam.
I had 530hp and the car was used in anger (2wd) and saw some drag action too.
I split the original cover almost straight away but the MT billet cover I have has been faultless so far.
I will be upping the power another 150hp next year so we'll see how it handles that.
I will try slicks at the strip too next year.
I also have a spare supra diff with a different ratio in it incase I ever wanna swap
Cheers Paul

You do not need any fitting kit at all, the beam is modified to use the side bolts. It is SO much easier to fit too, the fitting kit did take me a while and a bit of juggling about but with this version it was minutes to fit.

In the same scenario the 4wd car at 469 bhp has the other 159 bhp and a chunk of torque still pulling at the front for the same weight, therefore the power to weight and torque to weight of the 310 bhp at the back is significantly different. The 310 rear on the rwd car has more weight to push against (more inertia) so in theory the 310 on the 4wd car has much less work to do to propel the car so with limited grip / excess power the 2wd car is still more likely to spin initially to overcome the inertia of the more work (weight to push).
Playing devils advocate to my argument the 4wd car has less weight in terms of power to weight to push the rear tyres in to the Tarmac so could be more grip limited than the 2wd car.
Also weight transfer on the 2wd would be greater giving more grip. My head hurts now
