When you say "cosworth engine" , what do you mean YB, BOA or BOB ?

Yeah, I was going to ask the same, do you mean the YB 2.0 turbo or one of the V6 versions?

The sump and the gearbox of a V6 both won't fit a YB.

it's a totally different gearbox to the V6 version, so you'll need to change all transmission items

Not all transmission items, the front and rear diff are the same, as well as the props. It's just the gearbox that has a different bell housing, which is integrated in the box so can't be interchanged.

And the YB sump. I don't know about the starter and flywheel though, I suppose the 2wd YB items will be the same as the 4x4, but i'm not sure.

The front suspension is different on a 4x4 cosworth as well, the 2.9 items will fit but give less good handling.

You could use the 4x4 box from a 2 litre Sierra, its the same casing as a cosworth one, you just need to change the clutch release arm and pivot pin from the YB version. Diffs, shafts props can all be re used from your existing set up as well.

Cost wise, not worth it, YBs sell for strong money now, better off putting a BOA in it if anything.

Unless you've got a YB already or a shit load of cash to burn don't bother, stick with what you have and turbo or supercharge it, the quickest production Sierra was never a cossie anyway, was either your 2.9 or 2.8 with twin turbos and made around 323bhp

Hardly a straight comparison though, the Minker was a highly engineered special built in tiny numbers at the very limits of the engine package, where as the YB was a detuned high production number engine. A simple chip change on the YB cancels the difference, as it is a lighter engine.

However financially it makes sense to stick with what the OP already has.

If you want to fit the boa or bob engine into your car then what you will need to do is swap the sump and flywheel and oil pick up pipe from your engine
As you already have the donor vehicle you need everything else is a direct swap
It's advisable to fit the clutch from a 4wd cosworth as well
When they were cheap a swap could cost you as little as a couple of hundred pounds and a day of spannering if you knew what you were doing

You could always fit a slightly hotted up version of a BOA though
