Oil testing
As I work in formula one I get to be around some of the best of the best, have been talking to the oil and fuel analyzer and was talking engine oils, he has said he only trusts a few brands due to the one he has personally tested.
He is going to be testing a sample of the oil currently in my car which is valvoline v1r, and the. I'll be putting in the Mobil 1 10/60 and doing the same test to see how well the oil copes etc, it's the same test that is done on f1 engines. It tests for 7 types of metals as well so can see what is wearing on the engine, will post the results up when I get them after the Russian race.

We gets loads of oil and fuel samples done at work. Every time something big go's wrong warranty want samples. Especially if it's fuel related so they can check for bio fuel or contamination lol

Daf are real anal with it last one was a Euro 6 LF that kept bringing on the oil breather system warning as there not allowed to put oil fumes to atmosphere. Turns out cylinder 5 had worn out rings. The trucking was knocked off the air filter housing so it was sucking in dusty air which basically shot blasts the cylinder and rings. The oil sample results even showed metal traces from the valves

Currently waiting for a sample of mine to come back. Changed to Total Quartz 9000 0w30 for the higher HTHS on the last oil change and want to see how it held up after 5k.

Where as others use a bulk buy base then just add stuff to them to make it appear better, as oppose to starting off from a good base and improving it.

hmmm very interesting - my friend who is in the trade said he noticed somthing on new oil delivered to his garage - there was a code on it that showed it was some sort of recycled oil - anyone come across this?

I started reading the Bob Is The Oil Guy forums and there's some really interesting reads on there. There's so much more than what's on the label that has to be considered when you purchase oil!

He said he would only ever use castrol or Mobil, due to them making their own blends and all from a controlled source that they make the base etc.

Got my analysis back today. It was actually Castrol Edge A5/B5 0w30 oil.
It's actually wanked after just 5,200 miles, how Ford expect the oil to last 12k I have no idea and just proves to myself that it's not in my head when I hear the engine getting noiser after 4,000miles on an oil.
Speaking to Miller Oils the biggest issue is fuel dilution. 2% dilution is 'cautionary' and 4% dilution is 'critical'. That means this oil is borderline at 3%. Not only that the fuel dilution has caused the oil to water down from a SAE 30 at 100°c to an SAE 20.
It's almost certain to me that this is caused by regeneration of the DPF. Anyone who's read any of my posts knows I've had use issues with the EGR calibration on this car which Ford can't fix leaving me with no other option but to remove it once the car is out of warranty. This test now means I will probably end up removing the DPF too for the sake of the engine. Shame.
I am however going to have another test done in 6k to see if that's any better. I am sort of hoping the fuel dilution was maybe due to just one bad regen? I can hope.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Millers Oil Laboratories do it. Cost me £25 but I sent it off nearly 3 weeks ago now and haven't had the analysis back yet.
