Default The Elite of the road

Just wondering if anyone else notices this phenomenon. My previous mode of transport was an 'S' type Jag during which time I was accustomed to waves, salutes, admiration and drivers giving way ( unnecessarily ). Anyway, that has all changed now that I drive a fiesta. The Audi/ BMW drivers seem to feel that they have something to prove. Well ok, I get it, I know my place! but its not at the fuel pump or the tax office!

I am having trouble understanding what you are getting at, are you saying that because you now drive a Fiesta, Audi/BMW drivers etc are cutting you up or driving badly past you etc? Or are you missing people admiring your car? Who gives a shit what other drivers think of your car ,if it suits you that is all that matters.

Think the main problem is you thought you where "elite" in your jag when in reality no one gives a shit, now you drive a fiesta and feel insecure about it?

All i ever see these days in bms mercs and Audi.

When i was younger if you had a these cars you were rich. These days people who have them think they are rich but are paying 300 quid a month for them on finance.

Yea, and a fuck off deposit. And they'll be left with nothing after 3 years.

On the knobs debate, If I see someone driving like they own the road it's invariably an Audi. Not a BMW like it used to be. Odd....

That doesn't mean I think all Audi drivers are the same - they quite clearly aren't.

I think I've told of the lady who came in for mot in her Range Rover last year, her husband has one too, she burst into tears when it failed the mot on a tyre and one front wheel bearing. It turned out that they were paying something like ÂŁ450 finance on each Range Rover a month and they had sod all money left lol. We said to her why don't u get rid of one and her response was something along the lines of "well where we live it dosent do to drive old cars", get a fucking grip, just because people make out on Facebook or telly that they drive these cars or pretend they do it dosent mean u have to. I just had to walk off and laugh.

I bet the people who own these cars struggle to afford to maintain them.

I will stick to my donkey Fords that are cheap for parts and easy to work on.

Why do you seem to think people with certain types of car can't afford them?
Why do you assume buying a car outright is a sign of wealth or indeed the cheapest way to buy?

Seems to be a few chips on shoulders?

Its actually laughable the amount of posh cars like range rovers, q7s x5s and the like that have seriously baldy tyres cos the owners cant afford to replace them with there champagne looks and coca cola pockets fuckin idiots get back to reality and get a normal car.

doesn't matter what I'm driving, I always think I'm better than everyone else

I was sitting behind a big x5 the other day and noticed it had 2 different rear tyres and both were pretty worn ,I did think either hes a cheapskate or he doesn't really care about cars.

we done a Ł4 million renovation on a country mansion recently, the owners are obviously very wealthy and own half the farming land in the county but they had a mk4 golf and a crappy Volvo on their drive !

some folk just see cars as a mode of transport to get from A to B and don't really care about them but no matter what I'm driving ill never be one of those plums that wave to random people just because they drive the same car as me

Some peoples attitude to cars is different to most of ours. Years ago I went to a big house and farm out in the country in Hampshire to see the bloke about new windows and doors. It was a nice sunny Saturday and so I took my Saff. When I got there and got talking to him he said he loved my Saff and would I like to see his cars. There was a new massive garage with 3 huge electric doors. he opened them with his remote controller and inside he had a one off Aston Martin DB7 ( i think that was the model ) that had been hand built just for the Motor Show. He told me when he saw it and asked if it was for sale he was told NO it will stay at Aston Martin, Any way the upshot of it was he Somehow bought it for a lot of money. He also had a De-Tomaso mid engined V8,Lotus Elan 2+2 and an AC Cobra. The garage had a tiled floor ,heating , lighting and high security alarm system. All the cars were immaculate but he was definitely a bit eccentric as inside his very big house his kids were playing with free running chickens and rabbits. There was straw on the floors and chicken poo everywhere. There was realy expensive furniture with chickens all over it! He didnt seem to worry about the mess and he did buy his windows and doors from me.
When I went round the back to measure there was a nearly new Bentley parked up completely covered in mud and shit. I was suprised and he noticed me looking at it and said "oh thats just my runaround which I use around the farm" To him a Ł130,000 Bentley was not special!! His "special cars were the ones in his big garage.

Ouch

My daily driver is a 2003 Audi - the indicators all work great, unlike BMW ones.

i dont think there is any such "elitism" on the roads,

However people do treat you differently depending on the type of car and also your driving behaviour.

charge up behind someone in the outside lane in a big 4x4 and people tend to get out the way. do the same in a small car and they dont.

act aggressively on the road in a german car and generally people ignore you or give you a cunts response. do the same in a normal car and theres more chance they will get out your way.

I've noticed since driving the aa/rac/green flag van (rules on social media) that people are much more polite and let u out and such things. I think they must think it's karma if they don't let me out they will break down lol

Could be the van thing, when I'm in the van other vans are more courteous to me for sure.
