Default Adding injector cleaner to focus- stupid fuel cap system

Just got a new (as in new for me, 2011) focus and "tried" to put some injector cleaner in it only for it to spill out down the overflow tube and basically everywhere else but down the gas pipe. There is no fuel cap on my focus and it was a bit tricky to feed the bottle in but it just spewed everywhere. Is there a trick for getting this to work? I just threw £4 of cleaner all over the road! Do I need to feed a hose pipe down the pipe and funnel the liquid in??

Cheers

Is there a pipe/filler neck in the tool kit?

You should have a small funnel in the boot that fits down the tube.

We have used a 16mm 1/2" drive deep impact socket to open the flap and tip additives through it into the tank, be careful not to drop the socket into the tank though.

I don't think there is a funnel with the tool kit - pretty sure thatwould have been lost long ago. I'll double check tomorrow though. Might just buy a small funnel from pound land and re try. Thanks for the assistance

It should be in the foam bit in the boot that the jack sits in.

All the advice the lads have given you is great . But as to putting cleaners / additives in the tank your wasting your £ and dreaming it will make it better . If you think something is rong with them do the job properly and take them out and have them cleaned professionally .

Nonsense, good quality additives used correctly have their place!
I saved myself an expensive turbo replacement/rebuild with BG244 on my Mondeo. Not just that after using 2 cans of it over around 1500miles the engine was much quieter and much cleaner.

I try to avoid oil additives however I recently used an engine flush on my Mothers Suzuki Jimnny. Suzuki say oil changes every 4k are required and it went nearly 16k on Castrol Edge 0w30 A5/B5. The top end was tapping and the engine felt lazy, I suspect the VCT wasn't working.
Run a flush through and got all this crap out of it. Runs heck of a lot better now, need to keep on top of the oil changes!

Forte have been sold off and the original makers of Forte have started a company called TEC4. Some really good products in my opinion!

Sure they are designed to only open with something of the correct size as the fuel station nozzle. You can't just push it open.

Ah never knew that! Just been out and had a look. This is the funnel bit, looks like one of those things women use to stand up and piss with...
Anyhow, as you say you stick it in the filler and it moves a flap down, then the top parts out and then the silver flap opens.
Its 21mm O/D and my funnel wont open it, if i cut the taper down it would fit tho.

BUT i can quite easily open the thing with my fingers so can do that, then stick a normal funnel in.

Thanks for the info Guys. I forgot I had some cooling system piping. It was the perfect size. Pushed that down the tube with a small home made funnel in the top and it worked a treat. Will keep it for next time as well!
