Very light and lots of puma engined ones about £1500 would get a very good one just watch out for the rust.

Are these any good? I never even thought about one untill I saw this and gjh's post.
Theres quite a few for sale on the net for under £1k

I hated them and can't believe I'm fighting it's corner but for £1500 and ford it's a fiesta or a focus St170 or puma. Couple of cheap mods and they are are a match for caged clios and civic ep3's round knockhill. That was a puma one.

I think a mk6 you would be scrapping the barrel at that price. Don't know if anyone has mentioned bmw compact yet or 106gti/Saxo but obviously not fords.

Great track cars! Handle like a go-kart and nice and light just a little under powered but make up for it in the corners.

You will be surprised what they pass though!

Handle well but ultimately under powered (perhaps they should of come with the pumas lump from the factory), lots of bodged puma conversions mind, and they rust like any old ford (so a lot) but a good one is a good little car, not sure if you'd match the pace of clio's mind unless you can really drive.

Fiesta RS1800 are a good car, granted things need up grading but have a strong engine that pulls well, a great ratio gearbox and can easily keep up with a clio cup 172.
I think he mean mk3 Fiesta's rot just for fun lol.
I think with the RS1800 i got last year i need to take welding classes

I had a fiesta mk5 zetec s with a puma engine and a few other mods - it certainly went very well on track. A little under powered down the straights but it was scalping far superior cars through the corners. I was all over the back of an Evo in the wet and he could only get away from me down the straight and for the rest of the lap i was trying to get past him - would love another

I will put up a new thread soon as I would like to document what's been done

Had the Meg around Donington last summer. I even let my lad drive.

I would need a trailer and a tow car before I could really push it though.

Nice one matey. When I had my 1.7 puma. It was quick in the corners but on the straights cars were pulling away from me.

Quick cars these. I put rear discs and pads on one and road tested it. Very impressed with it.

It's been a good laugh driving the car and the conversion was a learning experience. I'm hoping to give it a bit more power eventually

I am helping my Son to get his 2001 Subaru Impreza WRX STI ready for track action next year. We have done a lot of suspension upgrades, engine mods which we hope when its mapped will give it around 360bhp, We have fitted a 6 speed gearbox and an uprated clutch from a later model, AP big brakes up front and a roll cage. I have been busy cleaning and painting parts for it so when we put it all back together it will be looking good. He does'nt use it as a daily and I am pleased that he has decided to use it for track day fun.I know it's not a Ford but it will be a pretty quick car once we finish it.
