Default Perfect day for taking my 2wd Saff out for a blast

Today is what my 2wd Saff loves, very cold with nice dry roads and as a bonus humbling a 2016 v8 BMW M3!!
Came down a slip road onto a motorway "somewhere in Hampshire" and as I did there was a lovely looking bright red M3 approaching in the middle lane . I pulled across into the fast lane and got in behind another car which was going quite fast. The guy in the M3 thought he was going to impress me by undertaking us in the middle lane giving it loads with its very noisy 4 pipe exhaust.
The other car pulls over so now the m3 is directly in front of me in the fast lane. The road clears and he gives it everything its got thinking that of course he will leave my old 1990 Saff standing. NOT this one mate! As he realises he cant get away and I am just waiting for him to move over which he does at "slightly more than the speed limit" I pass him and pull away from him. As i go by I give him a cheeky see you later wave but guess what, he ignored it and when I slowed down again he stayed about 300 yards behind me and didnt come any closer again for the rest of my journey.
This is why I love my Saff, humbling a v8 M3 which costs 4 times what my old girl is worth is pure majic!!!!

Not wanting to put a downer on it but a guy localish to me did that last year and the other driver lost control of his own car, crashed and died the driver of the other car recently got 6 years for causing death by dangerous driving even tho he had no input into the other guys driving

http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/te...death-11523878

be carefull out there guys, as if the M3 driver had crashed you could be the one doing 6 years..

I can't see how he could be convicted of the offence as he didn't cause the car to loose control he just was the catalyst for the other driver to drive fast.

Steve

Such a sad read, jurors found the r32 driver responsible for the civic drivers death which makes me think theres more to that story

Got to love it when these old sierra's show up the new kids on the block even now!

Although, a 2016 M3 now has a straight 6 3.0 twin turbo engine and the 2008-2012 had the 4.0 V8 like what's in the one in my sig pic. probably an even more impressive win

So your modified car with around double the hp from factory beat a standard m3.

I love these threads thank god for straight roads.

I've seen these 400-500 bhp Cossies on track getting spanked by pug 205s, Focus RS's etc, AND before anyone starts, I love Cossies too, but I'll say it again, don't be blinkered, great cars but you can and will be shown up one day too

Not sure Fuzzy but I know the M3 will be a lard ass in comparison to a 2WD Sapph which will help hugely, irrc Sapp is only 1290?? Very light car obviously being an 80s no air bag jobby etc etc.

This is true Pete

I applaud a cossie for being a fun car but I don't applaud this idiotic stupidity of Add to especially cold roads on a Sunday morning not the most quietest time of day ! Think yourself lucky no one pulled out on you and you did kill yourself or a innocent bystander

I have played with stuff late at night ect and found yes you can beat modern stuff hell the facts are there on paper let alone power above there's nut remember this not many will bother going above 100-120 due to loosing there licence so easy and this is where races are won and lost lol as the modern car will have the legs above 120 on a cossie if theres enough stupidity or the balls lol

Jay, I wasn't haven't a dig at Cossies or the OP, but it's just not so dry cut is it mate as folks think? You've driven A LOT of fast cars ( including) Cossies and there are cars out there that will destroy them. I've been in Karl Norris's running a GT40 many moons ago and it was ballistic, but I've also been on track in my mates 320 bhp Subaru would you believe and I was screaming like a girl a 450 bhp cossie would struggle it's that simple no matter how good a driver.

The thing with Cossies they get under our skin, they do have the X Factor, they give a feel not a lot of cars can match, this is why we love them, but when I owned all mine I was never under the illusion I owned the fastest car on the road

Think the newer m3 is more than that fuzzy 440-450bhp? OP's car is 450 but a damn site lighter is imagine the m3 being over 1700kg

Yes and the e36 evo m3 had 321bhp but in reality never got near its book figure.

4.1 to 60 after 10 runs in the dry with a decent driver and thats a average.

My mate owns a v8 m3 and even he says a good 400bhp saff will moose him every time. He knows hes owned many cossies upto over 600bhp.

There is 21years between them and yes a cos is fun but only on the straights in the dry.😂😂😂

The M3 has better suspension so it should still edge out with driving levels the same.

Threads like do make me laugh having put my Sierra up against many modern so called fast cars lol and bikes!. First off a Sierra can be made to handle well and I'm not taking about a set of armed springs and polly bushes lol. To me it's a no brainer if the cosworth has more power more torque and weights a lot less and you can half descent drive it lol weather people like it or not it is driving away from you

The proof in the pudding for me is, why aren't there any Cossies in the Time Attack series?? It's not rocket science

Ronnie Amis was the one of very few and did well, but it's all Evos and Subaru that do the times, not a 500-800 bhp Sapph. Lol

It's an out of date car lol it's all relative we are most of the time taking about a very modded car against a standard car. No doubt if you tuned the fuck out of the m3 it would leave the old Sierra behind

I know we're talking the best budget available here AND I promise I'm not dissing the Cosworths, but just watch and enjoy, if you're a Jap hater or not, I'm sure you'll admire such a car and driver

PS, I know it's an old vid and been seen many times

And that's my point exactly Andy, they're not the b all and end all, but they're addictive mate, God I wish I still owned my old 3dr, but I've owned a lot faster capable cars

theres nothing special about them , its just down to personal preference as the owner of any other car will also argue.
ive still not been in anything that launched as savagely without drama or wheelspin than my mates old evo8. instant go !

No of course there not but my point is tuned properly with a good set up there by no means out of date on the road again modern so called fast cars. And there's certainly ones out there that will humble most of what there ever likely to meet on the road.

any car tuned properly will do the same. that's the risk you take when going up against someone on the road. you don't know what they've done under the bonnet and I won 99% of my road duels in my cosworth bmw but I know which one id rather have parked on my drive!

That's very true with all cars and go's to show that just because it's old doesn't really mean it's not capable. I like m3's more of a e36 fan myself but given the choice now I'd not swap my Sierra for one maybe 10 years ago but not now

They are on ebay for 50k+ instead

Shame as they can get good results when done but old tech now, people are happy to chuck money at something they can get spares/information/upgrades for easily.

Spares are getting harder to get for old cars
information - its out their but not as many people pushing the boundries anymore
upgrades - new car, new tech, new ideas

Cool story. Ive had cars in the past that have tried to get past me when ive been on the motorway. I find it funny when the first time they cant get past yet they try again and also fail lol.

This is the reason why i like sleepers cause people dont know whats under the bonnet of them.

or you let them past and sit on their back bumper till something goes pop, seen a few people do that to r5gt turbo's and saxo's in the past

I like the new EmmFree, I know of two guys with one though and they both say they're a total handful in the damp. I guess you've got power and weight on your side and it's always nice when the under dog wins but I think the beemer isn't worth 4 times the price of a big power staff, especially if the recent eBay ads are anything to go by..

It's way too easy to los e your licence these days.and it's one of the reasons I'm building a track car .having fun in a controlled environment appeals to me more at this stage of life

Here in Ireland 43% of police cars are unmarked so not worth the risk anymore.

This is the same reason I love my cossie, when these rich folk think they have the fastest car on the road then get shown the bumper of a 30 year old Sierra that's what makes me smile.

Yes they have the nicer more reliable car but on a duel carriageway or motorway a powerful cossie will leave most of these cars.

Most people do lose their balls over 100mph anyway but I've had my car totally off the clock and it would have a higher top speed than most modern machinery which again makes me smile.

Some people choose not to break the law, others do, that's upto the driver to make that call

Cheers Paul
