Wheelspin in an auto = Impossible!
Must first off start this by saying my wheel-spining days are over as now 42, not 17 anymore.....But.....I thought I would try to relive my youth earlier as a site I work on has this huge empty car park. I have always had manual cars, mostly hot hatches but due to an injury on my left leg I now have an automatic Mondeo 2.5 V6 MK3. So, in first gear and put my foot to the floor, nothing, no wheel spin?! I know nothing at all about automatic cars so is this something they dont/cant do? So the attempts to relive my youth failed today. Going to go on Ebay now and look at woolly pajamas and slippers

My old 2.9 Granada Scorpio used to do burnouts and doughnuts lol. If it's wet in some of the old auto shitters I used to have I used to rev the tits off it in neutral and then plonk it into drive and it would light up. Wouldn't recommend doing that in a decent car mind lol. Had an old old Nissan Silvia turbo auto back in the late 90s and that did awesome burnouts lol. A Nissan stanza auto front wheel drive I had used to do burnouts in the wet lol

True about the weight and power. My car is 1550kg and has 167 Stallions, I suppose not much can be expected with this power
The old Granda 2.9's, fantastic cars. A mate of mine had one, hairy in the wet on roundabouts!
Told my girlfriend about not being able to do a wheelspin, her reply was one that hurt...... 'Your 42, is this some sort of mid life crisis?'
I have been looking at some E39 and E46 BMW's with the 3 litre straight 6 engines, maybe they could be fun to drive

I remember when I was a kid wheelspinning was cool, we used to always ask folk in nice cars to wheelspin and if they never we'd all think they were gay pmsl

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
My lad had an automatic 530i M-Sport BMW a few months back. In his words he 'lit the back wheels up' coming off a roundabout. We had the old bill round the next morning threatening him with confiscation of the car!!

yep 9 sp......its constantly shifting cogs but when youre cruising along you don't notice it at all.
Its a fabulous car really, 3.0 v6 turbo diesel about 270bhp/370 lbft and my 25 mile each way commute does between 39-42mpg.
I'm not keen on the interior but the engine/box are amazing

Never driven an auto but always imagined if it has a torque converter then you could keep your foot on the brake while revving to build up the torque converter speed then release the brake? Might not do the parts any good though

your not doing it right?
does a little yellow light flash on the dash when, flooring it from a standing start? if so turn the esp off.
I can remember my mate having a n auto mk2 fiesta years ago, that was slowwww 1L i think, but could still light them 135 tyres up

i'd say your behaviour is perfectly sane. the age is just a number, none should stop burnouts just because of it ...
no f*cks given, keep 'em wheels spinning !

Happily retired
Nah!! nature will change you before that's for sure. I was still going barmy at 65 only interested in setting UK & World Topspeed records. At 71 im not like that im afraid as you approach 70 nature just starts to show you the error of your ways. You cant see or hear as well your reactions are a pale shadow of 10 years before & almost certainly an illness will make you aware of your mortality. I still enjoy fast cars but would not drive like a tit on speed on the road anymore. Im the only survivor of the gang of lads that pledged a lifelong support for the Cosworth brand & its Topspeed record. The days of the Daddy Thrashes are long gone they all found other priorities in life. Rainbird, Hadland, Moss, Manning, Beglan, Reed all chased records were going to do it for ever & didn't.

Performance must be good, what is the 0-60, top speed and how much are they to buy?

60 in 6 seconds and 40mpg, amazing how advanced technology is these days Only thing that would worry me is if something went wrong engine wise, could it be fixed at home with basic tools like the older cars?
My Mondeo is doing 60 in the mid 9's and MPG is 22
