Default Sierra 4x4 drive coupling

Hi All

Desperate for your combined knowledge as I have hit a brick wall with my searches and my local Ford parts department.

I need a new coupling for my hybrid P100.
It runs Sierra 4x4 front running gear and Atlas rear axle.

The rubber coupling (donut) on the back of the MT75 gearbox needs replacing.

Does anyone know the original part number or an alternative part I can use.

Or would it be worth removing the split prop and go for a solid prop from the gearbox to the rear axle.

Thanks in advance for any info

Cheers Rich

The XR4x4 donut has been obsolete for years but you have options.

You can get a one-piece prop made. I looked into that but wondered how well it would work when Ford obviously thought the two-piece with centre-bearing was better.

You can buy a secondhand donut (if you can find one!)

If you can find the front section of a Cosworth 4x4 prop, it will match the gearbox and the rear section of prop, and the donut for that is still available.

I had an adapter to make up the difference in thickness between the XR4x4 donut and the Cosworth 4x4 donut. Do a search on here and you will get the Part Number.

Iain

Did you ever consider going direct drive from the gearbox to prop with a solid adaptor.

I understand the donut is there to take up the initial load to the drive train.

But we never used to have the rubber years ago and all seemed ok.

Interested in your thoughts on this or any one else's input.

Thanks

I never really considered a solid coupling, again because I figured that Ford designed it with a rubber coupling for a reason.

The block of steel would cost about the same, the machining cost would be about the same, and I wouldn't have the cost of the donut so it could work out cheaper.

My car feels like it gets a bit of driveline shunt anyway so having the rubber donut MIGHT be soaking up some of that. Or maybe not.
