Default Car show rant

Took my Escort to a local show today, it isn't a show car......it's my second car that I drive at weekends.....when I take it to shows its always washed, waxed, and hoovered out.....I know it's not perfect and has a few little dents, scratches etc......but always well presented.

What I don't need is two tools, pointing out every little imperfection on my car, and generally slagging it off whilst I was getting stuff out the boot! So they knew I could hear them.......I didn't dent, scratch or scrape the car, I've only had it since January and done a hell of a lot of work to it. In the little spare time I have.

Sorry, but people slagging off other people's pride and joy blatantly really winds me up!

Rant over.

I know where your coming from mate. My saph is in the total wrong colour, has faded panels and dents and scratches all over it. I've even put a sticker on the bootlid saying "the shed". Me and the missus were sat behind the car at a show a couple of years ago and two blokes were at the front slagging off every last bit of the car. I stood up and gave them a right mouthful to the point everyone in a vaccinate looked round and my mate had to calm me down lol. After that I thought fook em and stuck the sticker on the back. Mines not a show car by a loooong shot but I still take it to shows cause my mates go and we all park up together. Ignore them mate there just jealous tossers

as above just ignore them. I'm sure I had a read of your thread about the car and it was coming along a treat. I'd quite happily look around it if I saw it at a car show and its definately more interesting to me than a lot of the cars i've seen at shows that have just had cheque books chucked at them to pay for the usual stuff (air and rotiform wheels)

I have run passionfords stands at shows for some years and we have a diverse mix of people with all budgets and mechanical talents, things like snobbery or cliques are simply not welcome on any show stand I set up hence why I mix the stands up with all types of fords from concourse to works in progress of all budgets, anyone thats been on one of my stands will confirm this so pay them fools no attention as they are prob just having immature banter with each other and trust me they are everywhere and at some shows they are worse than others

Thanks everyone, I know theres always people about like that. And I know not everyone likes the same cars or modifications. It was just the way they did it, right in my face. Luckily I was with my family, or I probably would have had a right go at them. Oh, well...best crack on lol

Reminds me of a chap I encountered about four years ago, I was showing my then 1982 Mk1 Fiesta 1.3 GL, all original, 24k miles. He had a walk around the car, glanced at the badges and said ' Oh it's only a 1.3 GL, shame it's not a Ghia or a Super Sport '
So I gave him a polite reply and reminded him how common Super Sports are !

cant stand twats like that.as said people have all sorts of budgets and time scales for doing their cars.when people say oh my 1987 escort isn't mint enough to show I tell them its still a 20.30.40 year old car on the road still and well worthy of showing people these cars still exist on our roads regardless of condition.

I was at a"classic" car show last week in Knowle and I use the term "classic" since they were letting in Brand New McLarens, Lambos and 'Rarris but turning away 80's Audis, BMWs and even an 3 Dr RS. That reminds me I need to post the photos I took from that meet up at some point. But same principle goes. Got a stern speaking to due to removing one of my Headlights on the Saph to which I responded it isn't a MINT LOW MILE ORIGINAL CAR... It's my car and I will do as I like to it (whilst pointing out my OMP Steering Wheel and Aftermarket Stereo lol) I would understand if it was a concourse standard car but it never has been and hasn't intended to be.

I was at Castle Combe this weekend for RS Combe and the response it got there was great. Something different and the looks you get from people once they notice the Air Duct was amazing since they all want to see what is underneath the Bonnet. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but there are some things that really grind my gears and that is one of them

what a pair of idiots. you clearly put a lot of effort into your escort (you bought replacement owners manuals for Christ sake!!) and it looks really nice!

I hope these people remain a minority at car shows.

Can't stand people like that, there's always one person who has to point out a dent or scratch.

worst one I had was years ago, I had sold an item to someone on the forum and he let someone else purchase it instead as the guy needed it in a rush. The guy came to collect as he was local to my girlfriends at the time. He came down, collected the item and whilst there proceeded to slag off my daily driver at the time because it was a replica of what he was driving and just a lowely tdi. Said it hurt the value and following of his car and I should get rid of it.

Long time ago when i was 17 i took my 1.6 laser capri to a show, it had 280 brooklands wheels, genuine rs front and rear spoilers, 280 leather interior and a few other nice bits, this pair of nobs came along and started saying how much of a waste all these bits were on only a 1.6, sell me them all for my 2.8 they said as wasted on your car they said, muppets. recently at a show a guy asked how much power my cosworth was, i said about 500+, thought these were more than that he said standard!

I see yours at combe and yes it is a little used.
But its on the road and you own it and enjoy it.
Most people who take the piss usually pay for there cars monthly and never own anything.......or have extreme debt cheque book car.

What imo would make your car better is to paint the wheels silver.

Had it all the time with my rs500 that I used to show in concourse, 2 blokes together usually pointing at different parts saying they were wrong, loud enough so I heard, even caught one idiot trying to lift the chassis number flap thing to see if my numbers were raised or something, had done 22k from new and bought from a museum where it had sat since 92, perfect original car.
Have you owned one I asked? No they always reply, probably drive a vectra.
Had enough and sold the car.

Seems most of these idiots don't even know what they are talking about......we've probably all seen things we don't like on people's cars but we don't point it out. At the end of the day we all like different things, so we have our cars the way we like them.

I had a guy at Scottish Ford Day tell me my car only had 6 standard parts on it.
Headlights, foglights, clock, mirrors, window switches, rear spoiler. I told him it had a standard washer bottle too, but he said I had a twin outlet pump in it so that wasn't standard. He missed the doorcards!!!

its just a case of common sense nowadays as you see these fools everywhere with nothing better to do, some clubs do attract these types more like flies round sh*t so its a case of selecting your friends well and enjoying the day wherever it maybe, if anyone says anything give them the reversed winston churchill sign as they will get the message

Still had plenty of people stop and look. I never heard one bad comment about either of our cars which made a change.

Had it before with the 4i about why waste a cossie engine in one, told him I will do what I want as it's my car.

My cossie gets slated etc quite alot, especially at shows,by I imagine people that will never run one,
oh and they always get the colour wrong to,
I know it's no show car but it's a used, think that's why ford built them,
but I've had it 14 yr and done a 100 thou miles in it,daily driver till 6 month ago, still use it tho,
Does annoy me and have got to stage of loosing interest in going to them, hardly been to any this year,

I used to go to ford shows with a lad who used to slate the cars. This pissed me off cause he had a few fords in his collection but not one was perfect. They all had faults.

When i used to do the north east ford meets i used to always say all fords are welcome no matter what state they were in. If you wanna be a pervert go to a vw show, now there a weird lot.

Most of the people who seem to make these comments are more likely to use a spanner as a spoon. As said previously, they're the ones who never actually own their cars.

I like your car, ignore the pricks who "hate" on it, know how it feels, I've got a friggin mk4 fiesta (check them out for unloved!), not shown the car but come across plenty of keyboard warriors on, had memes made up about it comparing it with dog shit etc, just ignore them, if mocking a car is a highlight of their day then they obviously have a pretty sad and empty life.

You all worry far too much about what people think of your car !! take a chill pill.

As long as it has sensible suspension, tyres fit the wheels correctly and suspension geometry is good....it's fine.

All those who dont meet the above criteria...are bell ends lol.

Don't worry about it, most turn up in a clapped out focus anyway! Then give it the old "This one is shit! my mate had one when they were new and it was spotless!"

Tossers lol

Pure badge snobbery these days your right mate. I know a few people who have the latest German makes and are literally skinting themselves every month on the finance payments as they want to be seen as "successful". It's just a resurgence of the keeping up with the joneses mentality. I don't have Facebook but a few people shown me what's on there and it's mainly from what I've seen people posing with posh cars all tarted up to the nines when in reality I know a lot of the people in the pics and it's defo a false reality lol. I may just Be getting old but we are such a materialistic society. A couple of people that come round ours from
Time to time all they speak about is the size of their new telly or how much they've just spent on clothes etc etc. Drives me nuts. I feel sorry for my mate, his missus has worked in various main dealers as a car saleswoman part time and every different dealer she's worked in they have to get a new car matching the brand
Of the dealership. Their now struggling to make their mortgage payments as there punting out over £300 a month for the latest car! He's having to work nearly 7 days a week to pay for her false lifestyle. So sad I feel sorry for him but he's a mug lol

I don't get it either, can't see how it's comfortable or functional.......dont mind slammed cars on hydraulics or air bags, as they are raised up when driving. But the broken axle look isn't for me, but each to there own.......my Escort is too low at the back for me, it's ok and handles well. But a bit crashy on back roads.
