Hope you are all enjoying the bank holiday!

So my mum as this mini on a 1992 but we can't get it started! We think it has a fuse box missing from the bay with the spade type in.

We found this plug and wondered what its for? Like i said our best guess is the fuse box?

Attachment 21109

Its been freed off in the block so it turns over now but no spark! Bypassed everything and had the fuel pump on the go but like i said just no spark.

Cheers.

dont these have power from a coil for the spark.
been donkeys years since i had one, even worked on one.
also the dissy.

sorry no idea of the plug,
could try on the mini forum.

gcfcos 26-03-2016 11:47 AM

Isn't that for an old alarm?

Eigdoog 26-03-2016 11:52 AM

Yeah it is from a coil i believe, I'm not working on it a friend is (75 year old  ) so i find things out and tell him lol.

Really unsure on the plug?

Quick google and I found this.
There looks to be a fuse box in that area.

I doubt it has a coil, given the age.

Do the electrics work, check you have power at the coil pack?

Presumably you bought this as a non runner or something ?

As you seem to suggest your mum just owns it and now it wont start....when clearly there are bits missing ( unless someone has pinched them overnight ? )

Given the big rubber boot and connector style etc, it just shouts alarm.

Eigdoog 30-03-2016 08:00 PM

Yeah it was brought as a non runners but been told it has been running... Cant see how. I didn't even take the picture

Need to post up on a mini forum about this, just thought someone here would of known and saved me the time. Bet its something simple!

martysmartie 30-03-2016 10:51 PM

I, as well as others have given suggestions.

If that connector is for an alarm/immobiliser, then it would explain it!

if there is a massive rubber boot over the back of the wiring plug, im pretty sure it was an old laserline alarm plug, looks like someone has removed the siren and not stripped the wiring loom.
easy way to check is to put the hazards on and see if two of the wires go live with indicator flashing.

stevieturbo 31-03-2016 08:59 AM

Or depending on quality of install...trace the wires back to see where they go, and what it has been spliced into for removal.

MONSTER 31-03-2016 04:42 PM

If it was fitted by a Laserline approved installer you'll probably find it's only Scotch-Locked in anyway so will be a doddle to remove

Eigdoog 31-03-2016 08:07 PM

 Scotch locked in! Sounds like a job i would do!

Ill have a look since where the wiring goes since I'm a piece of shit and not posted on a mini forum yet

Hellraiser 01-04-2016 11:00 PM

Probably a silly question but Is there an immobiliser fitted?? Or cut out switch?

ballbag42 02-04-2016 06:37 AM

that's an alarm plug check theres not an immobiliser as that would prob be wired in to isolate the spark

Eigdoog 02-04-2016 04:23 PM

Trouble is I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking at either, just a DIY mechanic here.

Today we did just see if anything comes through with the flashers on but no joy. Just turns over but no spark... Anyone know a mini mechanic round Cambridgeshire (Ely) or anyone on here live close wanna come over and help? Not for free obviously.

martysmartie 02-04-2016 06:37 PM

It's simply a case of checking whether you have power to the coil pack, using a voltmeter or test light.

I suspect you don't, hence the problem, which will be caused by the missing alarm.

Trace the wires from that plug to see where they connect.

Post a better picture of the wires and that plug...

Cosnada 02-04-2016 08:03 PM

Try running a feed to the coil pack independently to see if it sparks. Maybe won't run if the immobiliser is in both ignition and fuel pump feeds.
