Do I sell the Cossie and buy an Evo 6?
Not sure, always wanted a sapphire cossie and now I've owned one for 18 months and love it to death, I still have the urge to own an Evo 6.
I mainly do trackdays throughout the year so a stripped out evo6 with slicks and coilovers will be lots of fun. I wouldn't dream of stripping my saph and plonking rock hard coilovers on.
There certainly cheaper and I think will mature in value much like cosworths have. Especially TME.
What you reckon?
But could I part with my saph?

i'd keep the sapphire an evo would be easy to replace if you was getting rid of that for a sapphire but the other way around it wouldn't be easy. You know what you have and they are going up in value still and getting harder to find good solid one's.

Hard one as most of us have a connection with cosworths were as evos are just generic cars that you own briefly and punt on.
Is your saff a 4x4 or 2wd? Sounds daft but I think it would be harder going from a 2wd saff to an evo as it would feel quite tame even though it's more capable round a track.

I've owned both as you know, the Evo is just so capable it's almost too good if that makes sense?? Whereas the Cosworth especially the 2WD Sapp is an event to drive if you get my jist? Best driving Cosworth for me the 2WD Taxi.
I'd have another 2WD Sapph for sure, BUT I'd keep the Tommi too because let's be honest, they're a bit special too
If you have that itch then go and scratch it buddy is my advice, don't be blinkered and life's too short

That would be a tough one! Evo's are very nice cars but the saff's are getting harder to get if you do and regret it it could be difficult to change back

Its a tough one I reckon, have you driven an evo6? Might be worth taking one for a good test drive to see how they really behave. Personally I'd be tempted to stick with the cossie and just buy something quite cheap for track days.

If your doing circuits a VII on would be better as there more stable. As said a RS would be better but you going to be lucky to find one. I've a IX FQ320, IX GT then went go heavy into trackdays I got a VII RS and its a whole different beast. Either way a Cosworth don't come close to a Evo, thats not me being bias as I am more a Ford fan than a Mitsubishi one

If I was buying a car for track days, and you're looking at that kind of budget, I wouldn't be buying either to be honest. I'd be looking at Elises, Caterhams etc etc.
However, I think what you should do is try and drive an Evo and see what you think of it. That's the only way you will really know. I think Pete's advice is wise too, go for an RS model if you can, as it will feel more raw and "special" which will make it more of an experience to drive.

Irrelevant but thought fuck it I'll post it lol, to be fair neither of them in the video impress me tbh cossie badly needs some decent suspension and back beam and evo looks boring and tbh very artificial cornering with the lines he's taking and last minute braking.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Will you be using the car for road use as well? If you can stretch to it, I'd keep the cossie and get a dedicated track weapon. One of my good friends does a lot of track days in his Westfield, I've been out with him and the added fun of being out in the elements and cornering speed is unreal, can carry far more speed in to the corners than the 500+ bhp jap stuff.
I'm having a conundrum as to if I should part with my saff to free up some cash for my new car that I've ordered but I'm going to do everything I can to try and keep it as well, as folk have said, good ones are getting harder and harder to find..

Well its definitely a Cosworth because of the smoke, Evo's probably do look boring there a really well designed and set up car that anyone can drive fast quite safe there not just a normal family car with a few mods and bits taken off other cars from the manufacturers parts bin and to be thats not a stock Cosworth is it The video doesn't really prove any car is better than the other, last trackday I did at Bedford there was a 3 door Moonstone Cosworth and I pasted it twice in my MG ZR Might be good to have a Evo vs Cosworth trackday tho

That video has no relevance what so ever. Lol
Let Me ask you this AND this is NOT a Mitsi big up because I own one at present because I love Cossies too as you all Know. But, HOW many cossie win, or even enter Time Attck?? I rest my case.
Most folks commenting on here haven't even owned both that's what makes me giggle. Go and drive a 400-500 bhp Evo and see what you think, again, NO BIG UP to Evos but try one folks.

Hmm, maybe a little harsh, I reckon an escort cossie, has the same potential as the evo/imprezas in time attack if someone wanted invest the time and money into one. The problem I see is the price of the base car now, but I do see what you are saying, out of the box an evo is better (helps that its newer)

Well you buy what you want imo as I have always done BUT I have owned a EVO and Skylines plus other stuff and they are better to drive than a cossie and believe me I fought the urge to go back to cossie ownership and yet 4 years into another cossie I wouldnt sell bit to go again as the EVO although a great car it will never have the attitude and personality of a cossie so what you gain with the EVO against a cossie it will just not be the same

I'm messing about of course, I think everyone can agree the Evo is the better platform out of the box.
But that doesn't make them better cars. Having owned a mildly modified Evo 7, driven a 440bhp Evo 4 and been out in a 900+bhp Evo 9, I still say they are way too refined, compared to how raw and, to a degree, special a Cosworth is. And that's what I like about them.

I don't know how you can say a RS Evo is refined, it has manual Windows ffs
And tbh even if you put 100k as you say in to a Saff or a 3dr it still wouldn't win
If you read my previous posts I'm NOT dissing Cossies, I love them, just I think the EVO is the better car ( all personal choice) of course

When it ultimately comes down to it the evo is the better car it's more modern lol things move on. But as a personal view I still prefer the rwd cosworth. I've driven an evo 6 totally standard one went really well but it would get boring for me

Not sure where the "Evo's are boring" myth comes from, of course it's all subjective but I've driven stock Evo 7 and 8's totally crossed up at 100mph looking out of the side window laughing my head off, and then put a series of B road corners together smooth and fast again laughing my head off. The harder you drive them the better they get in my opinion, they wake up when you beat them hard. Yes they will seem "boring" when pootling or just doing the standard Cossie test of straight line A road 50mph to xxxmph burst... but even a big hp Cossie is boring b y that standard!
I've also been in a few 500bhp+ modified 6's to 9's... how anyone can describe those as boring I don't know, and I've been in a few naughty cars in my time.
If I could a) fit one in my garage and b) got bored of modifying a silly little Toyota Starlet and wanted a fun drivers car I'd have an Evo over a Cossie any day of the week.

Boring if you like scaring your self half to death in a car that steps the back out unexpectedly if you don't have your whits about you lol. Different people want different things. There's nothing wrong with iver car

They can still do all that too, just normally at a higher speed and when really pushing on hard! In fact, you're probably more likely to not scare yourself half to death but kill yourself fully to death pushing the limits in an Evo than a Cossie if it's danger that gets you off lol! ; )

Ben,
This reply should end this thread imo, you more than most have driven, been in some seriously modded Cosworths and to post a reply like that sums it all up.
I too CAN NEVER understand how anyone can call an Evo boring, totally beyond me, Sheady has taken me out in some serious cars and boring was probably the furthest word from my mind, I think I recall something like " FUCK ME Mark"
Yes that can also apply to Cossies, but like I've said, a lot of blinkered people on here.
Rod is very honest in his reply, he's been in some very quick Evos too and I know he rates them very highly, but they're not him he's a a Cossie guy BUT not once does he say they're boring

My opinion of boring is based on a totally bog standard evo 6 I drove lol is it boring compared to my at the time 350bhp rwd saff very much so. Would a highly modded evo be boring I suspect not but I've never been in one lol

There's only one way to sort this, guys, hand me the keys to a nice cossie, and an evo. I'll be completely impartial, will give my honest opinions, no bull, just to the point. We can the see once and for all which one to go for.

But how's that a fair comparison?? I give up so you had a stage 3 Saff against a stock 280 bhp Evo
Imagine driving a STANDARD 220 BHP was it when they came out standard Saff, are you getting my drift YET??

Its not mate but it's all I have to go on. Don't get me wrong I really like evo's just wasn't impressed with the one I drove. A tunned one would obviously be a different story. But I can't see a 350bhp evo being as entertaining as a 350 saff on a damp day if I'm honest lol I may be wrong one day I'll have to go in one

Mozza81's reply is a good one on there, but ye cossie suffered big time. Its not a surprise though is it? Mitsubishi carried on developing the evo (and have done a bloody good job). The cossie has late 80s/early 90s technology in it. Just look at a mobile phone from the same era for the escort cossie if you want to see the way technology advances.
