I wouldnt be surprised if the overheating has played a part in the damage.
What oil are you using ?
Entire engine definitely needs pulled and fully cleaned before re-building....those weren't flakes, they were lumps !

Centre bearing certainly overheated.
And who says turbo pre filters are no use.....

I think so.
When I've put the bottom end back together, I'll flip the engine over and look at the top end, probably take a cam shaft out and inspect cam caps, followers etc.

That shell is well and truly shot. Where did you get the shells from and how much were they. Thats if you dont mind me asking.

Maybe the main filter isnt doing its job, that's why the engine's fucked !
Never needed a dedicated turbo filter in over 20 years turbocharging and owning/tuning turbo cars.

Always used ford oil filters, and changed frequently.
Bearing shells were from Matt Lewis, can't remember cost.
