Default Just had a suspect job offer.... advice anyone?

Had a phonecall from reed. Thought cool bout time one of them got though to me.

So we had a chat with this guy over the phone and filled in the blanks on my CV, asked me a few questions (you know the usual bit what do you see yourself doing, what area would you like to get into blah blah blah)

He then said I had been shortlisted for a mortgage company is hiring sales consultants, base pay is 24k + commission.

Thought hey this sounds alright . So he told me about the company and stuff then asked if I had the CMAP exam.

I said nope.

He said well the company offers the training course and are willing to put people though it before stating. But you have to pay £300 for the course.

The penny dropped. They arn't offering me a job, they want me to spend my money on a training course.

So I asked him, do I get to have an interview before taking up this training, so I can meet the people that might be highering me?

No, the training is your interview.

I thought nah that sounds well suspect, they just want me to do the training and THATS where they make the money.

I told him to send me more info and I'll think about it.

What do you lot think? Anyone delt with this sort of stuff before?

Reed have a recruiting deal with the Chartered Institute of Bankers who provide the CeMAP course. It is the only qualification you need to become a mortgage advisor and it's FSA regulated so the qualification itself isn't dodgy but I'd be wary of doing it unless you're sure that's the job you want to do because it's pretty much useless for anything else!!

From experience it is or was a good line of work to be in....once your established.

However it can take years and years to become well known enough to sit back an let the money roll in.....

Unfortunatly there is a lot of preassure and your life will almost certainly be consumed with the job....targets....stats......etc etc.

I wouldnt try to put anyone off a career in the consultancy side of finance as financialy it can be very rewarding however it does come with a price.

Best of luck in whatever you decide
